Recipe favors?

Sorry if this has been posted before - I did a quick search and didn't see anything so I thought I'd start a new thread.  Our wedding will have a bit of a nostalgic/family theme, so let me know if this is at all appealing:  I thought maybe FI and I could each pick out our favorite family recipe, I'll type them up on old-looking paper in typewriter font to give it a cute vintage look, and include a message like "From our family to yours.  Thank you for sharing this day with us".  Then I thought I'd stick the recipe cards in these cool DIY placecard holders:

I realize that not every guest would find this appealing, but I can't really think of a favor that everyone would find appealing.  And at least they are cheap (nearly free considering the wine consumption in our family).  The only ideas I really like are edible favors or lottery tickets, both of which don't have to be very expensive but certainly more expensive than the recipes.  I think it's a nice touch, but what do you think??

I'm kind of "eh" on this.  If I have to go home, buy the ingredients, and then cook the recipe, it's not much of a favor to me.  If there is no room in the budget for favors,it's certainly okay to skip them altogether.   They're not expected.

I would not care for this so much unless you made treats AND gave me the recipe!

I love the recipe idea and almost did this, but didn't want to write them all out. I was going to pick a single ingredient from the recipe (i.e. dried rosemary for a foccacia recipe, chocolate chips for a cookie recipe, etc.) and tie the card to that. It was just too complicated for my wedding, but I still think it's really cute and personal.

I love this idea. But I like "yjdkiy's" idea of attaching the recipe to one of the key ingredients. I always look forward to trying out new recipes. And as for having to go ut and buy ingredients most people have most of what you need. I think a favor that will last a lifetime is a great favor.

Doesn't that depend on what the recipe's for?  If it's sugar cookies, sure.  But if it's something like paella, no.

I would skip it as a favor unless you had a table set aside with some of the treats for guests to taste (or something like that).. You can get recipes online for free, so it would be just a little tacky to say that is your favor.

    I love this idea!
I think it is personal, and fun! recipes are great, and if you are looking to DIY and save money this is a great thing. I know I would love this and am thinking about doing it my my wedding favors.
Also it is a fun way to see who likes what. my FI and I have been thinking that we could contact family members and get 2 of their family favorite recipes then make it into a cook book of sorts.

This is along the same lines, but with a twist . . . My fiance and I are getting married in Charleston.  His family and friends are all from the midwest, and my family is very Southern.  We wanted to offer a unique way to name the tables, so instead of numbers, we thought it would be cute to name predominantly Midwesterner tables a Southern dish, (i.e. "Shrimp & Grits") and put the recipe on the back of the escort card.  It isn't THE favor, per se, as we are also planning to provide individually wrapped praline pecans from Market Street Sweets as favors.  And then at tables that will have a lot of Southerners, the table name would be for a TexMex dish (i.e. "Green Chili") with the recipe on the back of the escort card.  The cards will be the size of an index card, so they will easily fit into a recipe box.  Problem we're having, is finding "escort cards" that have "recipe" cuteness on the back.  I feel like we are going to have to spend a small fortune to have this idea customized.  SURELY this can be DIY!  We have a garden wedding/bird theme going, and I can't seem to find cut index card-sized paper that reflects that.  Or the orange & pale blue color theme.  Ideas?  References??  Thank you!

We are planning to do something very similar.  Our wedding is at a vineyard next October, and to keep with the theme, we'll be making little bags with mulled wine ingredients.  I think it's cute to share family recipes, as long as you put an ingredient with the card.
