Connecticut Hall Rentals?

I am a young bride with a big family and a small budget. I will be getting married in the spring of 2014 and have already went to tours. Although the venues have a lot to offer I cannot afford 80 per person especially when i also have other things that tie into a wedding to pay for. I was looking into renting a fancy hall and doing things on my own to be able to include all of our family without sacrificing the look and feel that I want. Does anyone know of or have had a reception in a hall where you took care of everythinbg yourself?

How do you feel about maybe an Elks Lodge or a VFW?  Some are pretty run down but others are absolutely beautiful, and they're very reasonably priced.

We are Getting married at lighthouse point park in new haven. It cost us $3300 for the hall. But then we are doing everything else ourselves. We are having it catered but doing it BBQ style throughout sweet relief catering. They are very inexpensive. And the venue is gorgeous!

We got married at the Lounsbury House in Ridgefield.  It's a beautiful Georgian mansion.  It's not your typical banquet hall feel though, since it's a mansion.  At the time, the rental fee was $2500 and you brought in your own caterer, etc. I'm not sure what the fee is now. We used Ciao! Catering out of Danbury.  They were unbelievably reasonable AND they had the best food out of all of the caterers we tried.  They also did all of the set up and break down for us.  I know that they will tailor a menu for your budget.  We loved them so much that we chose to have our rehearsal dinner at their restaurant Two Steps also.  Tom Devine is the person to speak with there.  http://www.ciaocateringtwosteps.com/catering.html

I assume you're asking about the Lounsbury?  There are two adjoining rooms that seat 110 I believe.  We had under that amount so everyone was seated in the two adjoining rooms.  There is a large archway that separates them, but it's wide enough that it doesn't feel like two rooms really.  There's also another room across the main hall that you can seat people in, but they will be separate from the larger area.  If you're doing a more informal reception, I think that's okay.  I've been to other weddings in mansions like this and it was totally fine having the separate space.  Some people don't like the idea for more formal weddings, but it's really up to you and what feel you're going for.  Tom at Ciao! is one of the primary caterers there, so he can help you decide on table arrangement.  He even made a diagram for us.

The mansion is beautiful, so we didn't need to do a ton of decorating.  There are beautiful mantles over the fireplaces in each room and we decorated those with tons of framed family photos and candles.  Each mantle had a different theme (us growing up, us together, old family photos, etc).  We got married in the main entry hall there so the we decorated the banisters, but that's about it.

There is a lawn on the side and in the front.  You can do an outdoor ceremony, but they do not allow tents.

With the house rental you also get an awesome bridal suite and separate grooms suite upstairs so that you can get ready there.  The bridal suite has it's own bathroom and entrance into the mansion so that the groom won't see you before the wedding.  If you want to see some pictures from our wedding to see the venue, just let me know.

Here is a small selection of photos from the wedding.  The shots at the beginning on the rocks were taken at Bulls Bridge in Kent.  Everything else is the Lounsbury.

You can check out the Knights of Columbus in Stamford. A friend of mine recently attended a wedding there. Not sure what the price is but it may be reasonable.
