Is a Milwaukee wedding in mid/late April a good idea?

Hi Ladies -

For various reasons, a wedding in April would be more convenient for us.  Our parents keep warning us about the weather however.  Is anyone else planning a Spring wedding in the city?  Are you having to make several backup plans (for snow, rain, unexpected heat wave)?   Did you get any discounts for doing the wedding off-peak?

Thanks!

The cheapest off-peak months are Jan. Feb. and Mar.  April is really the very beginning of wedding season, so I wouldn't expect many discounts.  I'm an early Dec. bride and didn't get hardly any breaks.  Also, some churches won't marry couples until after Easter.

As for weather,  I would definitely plan for an indoor wedding.  April is very volatile: snow, tornadoes, thunderstorms, or you could luck out like my friend 2 years ago and have a 60 degree, sunny day.  You never know.  I would plan everything indoors and use pretty spring flowers.  Tents are expensive because you have to rent it, and then rent tables, chairs, plates, silverware, and in April, heaters.  Nice for summer weddings where they just protect from the sun; not fun protecting from snow/cold.

    Hope this helps! :)

You could certainly have a beautiful spring day in April or it could be crummy. You never know! But, you will probably get deals from your vendors since they usually do off-season discounts Nov-April. I wouldn't plan a ceremony or reception to be outdoors, however.

Indoors for sure, just because you never know, but this year was GORGEOUS at that time.  With the flowering trees, and all the spring flowers...

Our wedding is April 2nd. I was a little hesitant at first because of the weather and the fact that most of our guests will be coming from our of state, but I'm willing to take the chance!!! Sometimes April is gorgeous in WI, and sometimes it is horrible!! It's so hard to tell.
