In defense of fire hall receptions

When I got on the Knot last year asking for venues/caterers for $55 a head people said it couldn't be done in the Philly area. Unless, of course, you have a wedding reception at a fire hall. People don't present it as an option and a lot of people turn their nose up at the mere thought, but I thought I'd post a photo because I was surprised at how the exteriors can be deceiving. The reception halls can look pretty nice inside. Hopefully every bride to be can book a beautiful venue within their budget- I know the economy has taken its toll on a lot of people's budgets.     The Wagontown Fire Company has a very lovely ballroom.

    ..of course, it's in Wagontown, Pa... so there's that ;)

    We had our reception at Memorial Hall @ Talleyville Fire Co. in Wilmington, DE.
    I wasn't aware that needed defending?

    I totally see OP's point-I think most people have a certain image in their heads when they think of a fire hall, I know I pictured a pretty blank room with crappy lighting and no ambiance.  Now that I've started doing some research I've heard that many are lovely.  We have several on our list to visit, and Talleyville is one of them, dibson!  Any photos I can stalk? :)

    I think Fire Halls, VFWs, etc are FINE for weddings.  People should have weddings they can afford no matter what that may be.

    I do think it looks silly to have very formal attire in a typical firehall though.  I'd probably skip the tails and ballgown. :)

    But even in a cinderblock room, you can have a fun enjoyable reception!

    We looked at Lia's Catering, they have several 'firehall' rooms, none of them were what I'd expected at all.  As a former snob about country club weddings (Please don't throw those rotten tomatoes, it's what I grew up with!) being the only way to go as I've researched other options if you're on a budget these make a great deal of sense and offer an attractive option.  Some of them look better than the chain hotels and the food is better too.  Do yourself a favor and check out Lia's food (and the rooms).  They run about 65. alcohol and cake included; five hour open bar; just beware the tax and tips like anywhere else. Possibly better prices for off season.  Let us know what you think.

    We just booked Talleyville Memorial Hall for our wedding.  It's very nice inside and very reasonably priced. 

    Dibsontop do you have any other pics, I would like to see the hall dressed for a wedding.
