July 2012 Weddings

Holy Storm!

Last night we were hit badly. Over thousands of trees are down, no power in 1/2 of the town, about 80 mph winds, and pouring rain. No travel allowed until this morning- lots of live power lines are down. A lot of people are trapped in their driveways- trees blocking their exit.

FI's parents' pontoon flipped over along with the boat lift and landed on another boat. The same thing happened a few years ago when a tornado hit, their boar flipped over onto the land.

This weekend we are supposed to have friends come over to celebrate 4th of July. Now we are without any boat, so I don't think we can do the best thing ever- driving the boat to an island where everybody meets and hangs out for the day. Oh well. Nobody got hurt or died, I think. That's the most important thing.

Luckily our house wasn't hit too bad- few branches are down, but only a few minutes away it's a disaster.

Anyone get hit last night with the storm?

Re: Holy Storm!

  • As I read this, the thunder boomed and it started pouring. So yes. : And good! We don't have the underground sprinkling up yet, and our yard looks like a hay field.

  • Yikes! I'm glad nobody got hurt though...but that totally sucks about the boat!

Definitely didn't get hit with anything out here except a few sprinkles lol But recently where my parents live in Indiana (also where our wedding is), they had a very similar occurance. Friday, there were straight line winds of 80-90 mph and some are still without power. That storm moved all the way east through Ohio over to Maryland, etc. Crazy weather around the country lately!!

  • *crossing my fingers that it rains today*...It hasn't rained here in a long time.  I'm expecting that tomorrow be the one day that it rains and ruins the fireworks.  I'm glad everyone is okay there!

  • We had a storm like that on Friday.  It was like hurricane winds and all of that rough stuff.  It looks like it may rain tomorrow as well so I am guessing your storm is headed our way.
  • Wow thats crazy. We haven't goten any bad storms here, just a little rain today.

  • omg so scary!!!

I wish we would have a storm here (hopefully not as aggresive of a storm). Now that I own a house I worry about things like my plants dying. We have lots of crispy plants that make me sad. WE NEED RAIN.
  • I was very happy to get the rain, but I don't know if it was enough. The grass was really dry and prickly and it's no use trying to water all of our 8 acre land with one measley water hose haha. I hope we get more rain.

  • I am glad that you are ok :)

I agree! It cooled down nearly 30 degrees when it rained, BUT now it's back to scorching hot for the next few days. I don't get it!

  • Oh wow, how scary! Glad you are ok. Thats a downer about the boat though. I remember you talking about the island that everyone meets at and hangs at on the 4th. Maybe you can make new friends and hitch a ride there still :-)

So Cal doesn't get any nasty stroms like that...very rarely. Definitely not in the summer.

  • Where in MN are you? I'm in the northern 'burbs of the Twin Cities. I woke up around 3 to the storm but no damage in my area. We still had power as well but my parents who live in the same city but on the other end were out.
  • I'm glad to hear you are okay mekiakoo! We could certainly use some rain over this way but hopefully no crazy storms.
