Seattle Recs

We're leaving for Seattle Saturday morning. Anybody got any good restaurant recs? Or good things to do? We bought CityPasses (you get 6 attractions: Space Needle, Aquarium, Harbor cruise, EMP museum, Pacific Science Center, and Zoo for like half the cost you'd pay if you did it individually, so it's a good deal), so we're going to hit all the major tourist stuff. If you have recs for downtown, that would be preferable, as we're  staying downtown and not planning on renting a car.

</div><div>H and I went to Whidbey Island (near Seattle) for our honeymoon. It was fun. The aquarium is VERY fun. At least, I had fun. If you're like me, you might enjoy feeding the giraffes at the zoo. </div><div>
</div><div>H and I really enjoyed doing all the tourist stuff. We ate The Pike Brewery one night, which was really fun. Ciara has been posting on a new SN at night. You might PM her and ask! Are you going to a Mariners game? That's fun too.

Oh, you should also go to the gum wall. I enjoyed seeing that.
  • Yeah Erin, we're definitely zoo/aquarium people. H just about peed in his pants he was so excited when I told him about the CityPass including both. Pike's Place market is definitely on the list.

I think it was one of my happiest moments on this earth when I fed a giraffe a leaf. Mind blowing. H got a picture too. I should frame that sucker.
  • If the gaming convention that's the whole point of our trip were in Philly, it would be a go Eagles.

  • There are several restaurants in the Market that have good food. Lowells being one. There is also a mini donut place in the market that is awesome, it only takes cash. The Crab Pot and Ivars are both on the waterfront and have good food.

Come to SLC. There aint nothing here, but me.
  • I'll eat anything, Sparent. Since it's close to the coast, and I live inland now, I'm trying to get as much good seafood in as possible.

  • Anthony's Home Port is also on the waterfront but further toward where the cruise ships dock and it's another seafood restaurant.

If you like chocolate hit up either Fran's Chocolates on the corner of 1st and Union St or Chocolate Box which is about halfway between 1st and 2nd on Pine.

I should boycott this post for the fact that the trip wasn't at least 6 months ago.

For a snack or light lunch while at Pike's Market you should definitely go to Piroshky Piroshky.  It's across the street from the market and down a block or two, right near the original Starbucks.  Soooo good.  My favorite is the smoked salmon piroshky.

I did the aquarium and was just meh about it.  The Ride The Ducks tour thing is really fun, and it picks up across from the Space Needle if you wanted to take it.  It goes in the water too and it's really cool.

Pioneer Square is fun to walk through and that's where both stadiums are.  Pyramid Brewery is across from the stadiums and we really liked it there.

TOm Douglas has some pretty good places as well: Etta's, Dhalia's Lounge, Palace kitchen, Serious Pie, Lola, Brave Horse Tavern, Cuoco.

I have eaten as Serious Pie and Brave Horse. His food is really good.

Sorry most of the places I know are north or on the east side

Oh uwajimaya has a food court there is a Korean Grill which is good. Oasis is across the street with nice bobba tea

Mee Sum Bakery is in the market try their pork Hom Bow. So good. Beecher's has good Mac and Cheese.

  • Let's see - another chocolate recommendation - Dilletantes.  Also, especially for late night meal-time if you're up late, hit 13 Coins.  Pretty awesome.

Oh, and do the Underground tour.  Seriously.  Plus, if you like coffee, take the chance to try some of the smaller, local coffeehouses.

Disclaimer: I'm spending next year in Paris in a pastry school so I'm on the crazier foodie side- I fly cross country just for dinner, so remember it's just my opinion. You'll have to let us know your favorites after you get back.

    - May not be the best chocolate, but it's local, organic and the tours are fun.

www.franschocolates.com/ - smoked sea sald caramels are national populars

http://www.mollymoonicecream.com/ - local favorite ice cream.

http://www.bizzarroitaliancafe.com/ - besides upside down furniture hanging from the celling? Awesome local spin on Italian Food.

http://www.macrinabakery.com/ - best carbs + sugar ever! I'm adicted to their potato bread and tarts.
http://www.rays.com/ - cool seafood brunch, great view no matter what the weather is.

http://www.caffeumbria.com/v2/indexb.html in Pioneer Sq. - their baristas go thru the highest training possible.

http://www.fontecoffee.com/cafe_winebar.html - sage/caramel lattés are to die for. Those babies keep winning crazy late completions on the west coast a few years in a row now.

Whatever you end up doing, you'll have a blast because there should be sun here. :)
  • The Pink Door is really good and a fun atmosphere.

  • It won't let me edit my post. I wanted to add that it's in Post Alley, which is right by Pike Place Market.
