Flowers

centerpiece - candles and flowers - ideas please!

hi,
I'm getting married in June 2011, and I'm struggling to convey to my florist what i want for the centerpieces....
I have this "vision" of a pillar candle, with a few flowers floating around, in a glass plate. I want something quite light and elegant, that wouldn't cost too much...

I'm going to go for "connie" roses for my bouquet (it's pink). I originally wanted to have those roses for my centerpieces, but it will be quite expensive + it would make them quite big. So I need other options...
My BM will have cream freesias in their bouquet, but they're quite pricey as well...

Do you think that it would look odd to have yet another flower for the tables?
would you have a suggestion as to what might work?

thanks a lot for your help!!

    1. Google images is your friend for ideas.

    2. It's perfectly fine to have a different flower at the tables because they'll be the main flower in the room.  Ask your florist what flowers will go with the ones you've already chosen.  Maybe even a different pink rose will work.

my fiance's aunt/god mother owns her own floral shop, but since we are getting married at the Wynn in Las Vegas which is far from home, we can't use her...but she does have some brilliant ideas-we are using glass cylinder vases (from dollar tree-they are $1 each) submerging a rose or flower in them and then placing a floating candle on the top-it looks pretty elegant and that's what I was going for-also if you can do it yourself the night before-it will save you big bucks :)..good luck!!

    thanks a lot!
I've looked at google, and haven't found anything liked - I know I had seen something similar on the knot, but can't seem to find it anymore :(
thanks for your opinion on the types of flowers, it's nice to hear from someone who has done it!
and I like what you're doing jewelschey! but I'm terrible at craft, it'd be much safer if a pro does it I think lol

if you have pictures to share, most welcome!!

The reception/centerpiece flowers don't have to match the WP or ceremony flowers at all.

In your vision, what kind of container/plate are the flowers and pillar candle floating in?  A regular plate, a charger plate, a tray with a "lip" or edge to it, or maybe a wide, shallow bowl?

If you can find a container like the one you have in mind,  you can make a "mock up" of the centerpiece you want.  Put a pillar candle on/in the container, maybe a few decorative river rocks or decorative glass floral beads/stones, and add as much water as you can without it spilling over (maybe 1/2 to one inch?).

Then take a few flowers you got cheap at the grocery store, and snip off the stems and float them in the water.  Is that close to your vision?

    Maybe something like this:

Hey, I haven't tried using silk flowers for submerging, only the real touch ones--are the silks any good for tht or do they get a weird soaked through look to them under the water?

thanks catwoman708! I'll try that - I was thinking of a regular glass plate, which would involve no water, but you're right, I'll try myself at home!

thanks for the pics, they're great!

if there are any other brides / bride to be to sahre others, keep them coming lol
