alterations-bridal shop or individual?

Hello,

I have posted a number of times but never introduced myself.  I live in the NW burbs and my fiance and I have been together for 3 years.  He proposed to me this past Christmas Eve and we are getting married this September!  We both wanted an outdoor ceremony and decided that we didn't want to wait over a year to get married so we decided to go for it and do it this year.  I have had a few moments of panic but I think we'll be ok (planning wise).

So...my question right now is about alterations.  I bought my dress at David's and just figured I'd get my alterations done there but I know I'm not obligated to and I have heard it's really expensive.  I won't need length taken off, just some taking up and in, etc (big in the bust area, and I want help with that, hint hint).  Any suggestions as far as this goes??

TIA!

I'd go to an indivudual, but I don't have experience at the big bridal stores getting alterations, I have always just heard bad stories. I think sometimes the seamstresses on their own are a little better/more accountable, but I don't have anything first hand to compare. My alterations are being done by Sarah Ciliberto out of Long Grove.

I'm getting mine done at the boutique I bought the dress from, but this board absolutely loves Mary Catomy in Schiller Park (O'Hare) for alterations. She was booked for my wedding, otherwise I definitely would have used her too! I would contact her asap if you're interested.

thanks for the recommendations.  I might try calling Mary Catomy although she is pretty far for me.

I re-read my post and laughed...I meant that my DRESS is big in the chest area...so I will need help with that.  I'm hoping to find a miracle worker = )
