Newly engaged!

Hi ladies!

I recently got engaged :) Now the planning begins! I have an appointment next Thursday to look at the Federal Ballroom. I want a reception venue that is pretty simple (not a lot of color). I want to make the reception my own with adding my own touches to it. I also do not want to spend more than $20k on the wedding.

Do any of y'all know a venue that will allow an outside caterer? Sometimes they allow an a outside caterer but it has to be from their preferred list. I feel like the venue will be the hardest part of the wedding.

I am also interested in Pavillion of Two sisters and The Foundry. Any help with reception venues will be very much appreciated.

Happy planning!

  • I am having my reception at the Pavillion of Two Sisters next week! We opted to go with their caterer because its really good! But you can bring in your own caterer for an extra $5 a head. The majority of the extra price per head is the liquor, but that depends on which package you get.

Thank you! Hope your planning is going great!
  • Congrats! We had an outside caterer at The Benachi House at no extra charge. The Wax Museum also allows this. Good luck!
  • Congratulations!  I just got engaged too.  Happy planning =)
  • congrats on your engagement!! Have fun with the planning. Theknot.com is amazingly helpful for everything! I do not know much about outside caterers so i cant give advice on that one, but just wanted to say congrats!

Congratulations!  City Park catering is really good, I think Audubon's prices for catering are also similar, I remember their alcohol packages seem less expensive than any other place we looked.

The Women's Opera Guild Home allows outside caterers, when I looked, they would offer recommendations if you asked, but they weren't going to make you go with a "preferred" caterer or anything.  I would definitely call them, their venue price was very reasonable, although I talked to them a year ago.
  • I don't have any info on those venues, but I wanted to say congrats and welcome! Happy planning!

  • Thank you ladies!! I'm really excited to go look at the federal ballroom! I wish someone from pavillion of two sisters would call me back soon...I'm ready to make a decision and relax.
  • Welcome and Happy Planning

I am fairly new here & just started plannig.

We liked the Federal Ballroom, we just did not think it was close enough to second line to it from our ceremony locations that we are considereing and we want to second line between two venues as opposed to at the end of the night.  Also, I don't know if you already have an outside caterer in mind, but  the preferred caterer for the Federal Ballroom is Capdeboscque  they get really good reviews on these boards.

  • Unless their policy has changed, you can't use an outside caterer at the Federal Ballroom.  There are great reviews on the caterer though and their packages start around $40/person including bar.
  • Hi OpenHeart, The church isn't close to any venues so I don't think location of the venue matters at this point. I'm so glad to hear that you liked it thought. I can't wait to see it! My FI has a family friend that is a caterer so we are hoping that the Federal Ballroom will go down on its price because we won't need their food. Fingers crossed!
  • Hey MJ!

Congrats on your engagement!!!!! This site will be extremely helpful. Many brides may be able to help you stay within your budget if you give the amount of guests that you plan on inviting. I wish you the best with your planning!!! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" />
