Wedding Video

I am looking for some advice about wedding videos.  I have been told that I would regret not getting a wedding video, but I am not an overly sentimental person and I do not think that I would watch it all that much to justify paying so much for a video.  We are having a photographer, so I figure that will capture the memories.

I was just wondering what all of your opinions are about wedding videos, are they really worth it?

The only regret I have about our wedding is not having a videog.  The day goes by so quick, you really miss so much of it.  I look back now and say I wish I would have spent the money for it.

We hired a videog and I am so happy that we did. I've watched it twice since May and we were able to send DVDs to my family members in Australia who were unable to make it to the wedding. We plan to watch it on our anniversary each year and to share it with our future children. I think that I would have definitely regretted not hiring a videog.

Btw, we worked w/ Star Quality Video and loved them!

I'm actually just starting to look into it. I was going to ask my aunt to video some important stuff..but she doesnt "trust" her camera...and she says that even after 19 years..she still regrets not having someone video her wedding. Looks like i'm now looking into a last minute videog!

We did not want to pay for a videographer because we were thinking that we would never watch it. My BIL ended up filming most of the ceremony and parts of the reception for us. I'm happy to have that but ya...we watched it when we got it and probably won't watch it again for awhile. I'm just not a big fan of watching myself on camera. lol  My sister's FIL also filmed but we haven't gotten the video from him yet.

I think if you have the money and want the splurge, a nicely edited wedding video is nice...but for us, it would have been a luxury, not a necessity. We love our photos so much that that's good enough for us. I'd say, if it's not something you think you want to splurge on, see if you have a friend who might be willing to tape for you. Otherwise, I'm definitely of the opinion that the photographs can tell the story just as well if you have a good photographer. :)

i regret not having one.  i thought the same thing...i'd never watch it and i'd have my pictures.

BUT there's a lot of your wedding that, as the bride, you don't get to see.  for example, i wish i got to see what was going on under my ceremony tent before i got there.  i wish i got to see my BMs walk in.  the whole thing went by SO FAST...i'd kill to have more memories of it :(

My wedding date is still in far away land, but I'm definitely planning on hiring a videographer.

I want to be able to see FI/my expressions when we say our vows. I want to be able to hear how we say them... and I just want to see everyone have a ball at our reception. It's just nice to have. I don't like the idea of a "what if" per se. And come 40 yrs from now when DVDs and blu-rays are "old school" I still want to be able to watch myself/FI on our big day.

Today marks exactly 4 months since our wedding, and we are supposed to get our video any day now.  I honestly cannot wait.  I did not think I would be so excited to watch it, but like others have said, the day went by so quick!  I want to see our ceremony and cocktail hour, which I missed.  I also feel like going around to the tables to say hi was good, I still feel that I did not truely get to talk to people.

Though I may only watch it a few times, I think it was worth the money.

As of right now we aren't planning on hiring one. As the date gets closer and I read posts like this I feel like maybe I should. I don't think we'll watch it much but I do want to be able to watch it years later and remember. Hopefully in April we'll know exactly what the catering will cost us and plan accordingly!

that was one of the things i saw in the wedding recap biggest regrets...not getting a videographer.  I just felt like we sort of splurged on our photog so we might not need one, but as it gets closer and i read all these posts I'm guessing i'll be looking for a last minute videographer....

i've heard good things about star quality as well, haven't gone for a quote or anything yet

I felt the same until I posted on this board. I agree with the other ladies that the video will capture things that the photos won't. I know it gets really expensive but if you just want a documentary style video(no love stories and all the extras) it will be much cheaper.

Here are the three places that are flexible and willing to work with us on the price:

We barely even considered hiring a videographer and were confident in the decision not to have one. But after the wedding, I really wished we'd had one. We really underestimated how much we would want to relive the day and see things we missed. Our photos are wonderful but video still captures something photos don't.

We asked my uncle to videotape the ceremony, and on his own he decided to shoot the toasts, random reception scenes, the first dance and DH surprising me by playing a song. We were so grateful to have all this captured on tape. I'm still glad we didn't have to spend thousands of dollars on it, but it's hard to ask a guest to spend the whole wedding holding a video camera.
