Photographer vent/pity party

So we got our engagement pics back from our photographer today...and I'm just lukewarm about them.  There are some cute ones, but out of the several hundred there are probably only 4 or 5 that I really LOVE.  I guess I'm a little bummed that the photographer was the one thing we splurged on because we wanted amazing photos, and I feel like these are not worth what we'll be paying.  Part of the problem I think is we took our pictures on a really hot and humid day and my hair and make-up show it, but we paid extra for her to do additional editing on the photos and she didn't even photo-shop out the makeup circles under my eyes :( 

The other thing that worries me is that we booked our videographer based solely on the fact that he works with her and we wanted to make sure there was no tension between an outside videographer and our photographer.  The guy we booked is...eccentric, and probably not someone we would have picked if he didn't work for our photographer. I know there's not much we can do since we signed contracts but I'm just bummed :/

    :(    I'm sorry - I know how much it sucks to expect something to be outstanding and for it turn turn out to be just so-so.  I'm having sort of the same worry about our wedding pics.  Our photographer's great, but with everything that went wrong during the day, I'm worried that the pics are sort of going to show that and just remind me of the disasters for the rest of my life.

    Why don't you show us a sample?  Maybe part of the problem is that you're having trouble being objective about them.  Let us drool over them and help make you feel better.  :)

    FWIW, I wasn't all that thrilled with our engagement pictures either.  But it was more I didn't like me in them but had it been another couple, I would have really liked them.  I found it was really weird to see 100s of photos of myself and it made me feel a little squirmy looking through all of them.

    So what specifically do you not lilke?  Is it the backgrounds, the poses, are they awkward, or do you just not like you in them?  You mentioned it was some photo editing issues, can you contact her and ask her to fix them?

    Did you really like her other photos she did of the samples you saw?  Or were you lukewarm about those too?  Because while I was "eh" about our e-pics, I absolutely LOVE our wedding photos.  Love them.  I think it has more to do with the fact that my make up looks flawless, my hair is done, etc so I'm the best version of myself so I like looking at them better, does that make sense?

    However it works out, I'm sorry you're bummed but this is not necessarily indicative about how your wedding pics will turn out :)

    On the bright side... you received hundreds of photos. Our original photographer only gave us 22. That's why we found someone else. :-)

    Who's your photographer? Also, I had feelings like Liz - I don't feel great about photos of myself but if it was someone else I would think they're amazing.

    Thanks ladies- it definitely helps to get other perspectives!  I loved the samples we saw of her work- and it makes me feel better that others were meh about their e-pics and then loved the wedding photos.  I think what I didn't like the most was the close-ups of me, I look like I have circles under my eyes in some.  There are also some awkwardly posed ones that make it look like I'm pregnant.   The pics themselves are awesome and very artistic in terms of coloring and design, I'm just very blah about how I look in some of them.  I did send our photographer an email asking if in the wedding pics she would be able to edit circles/blemishes so I'll see what she responds with, and once we get our cd in the mail I will post some on here.  Thanks again! 

    p.s. matuofm I bet your wedding photos will be gorgeous!
