Holy Invite DIY overload. Help!

So I have been on the boards and internet for HOURS trying to find the most affordale way to do invites and DIY, nevermind apparently I need to think about enclosures, pocket folds, figure out a way to do the enclosures etc.

Anyone have a good webiste or a blog on how to? I tried to follow someone and
a.) cannot figure out the pocket fold and b.) finding paper!
I looked at anchor paper and I don't even know where to start as I am not familiar with the kinds of paper I SHOULD be askig for...I am also looking at vista print and even a kit at Target (do those contain everything you need?)

--I don't even know what I don't know!

FI and I are doing our own pocketfold invites.  We got all of our supplies from www.cardsandpockets.com. They have pre-cut cards available for the pocketfold invitation, inserts and RSVP card.  Feel free to PM me.  I can take pictures to show you if you would like.

I'm using paperandmore.com for my pocketfolds.  The rest of my paper will likely come from the printer I am using.

I found cardsandpockets.com and paperandmore.com to be the most helpful sites if you want to DIY and don't know where to start.  1st, though, find some inspiration pics so you know what look you want.  If you do want pocketfolds you will probably be best off DIYing them.  If you want something other than pocketfolds then the kits at Target, Michaels, etc. might be just what you are looking for.  Those usually include the invite, response card, and response envelope.  If you want to include more inserts (reception card, directions, etc) you will need to find some coordinating paper, design, and print yourself.

Check out the DIY board and the Invites board for ideas too.  There is a post on the Invites board (I think) that includes PIP's of what people are doing.

My fiance and I almost totally DIY'd our invites.  The only thing we didn't do was printing (we went to a local copy shop and got ALL our printing done for like $10 and since it was shimmery paper we needed a laser printer).

Are you interested in folding your own pocketfolds or buying them?  My fiance and I used cards and pockets measurements and then created our own template using a piece of cardstock.  It's fairly easy, just time consuming.  If you want to do a "landscape" pocketfold you can go to this (clicky) website for instructions.  It's really a trial and error thing, so make sure you buy enough paper if you aren't going to use Heather's instructions.  We used double sided tape to attach the pocket to the folder.  We used rubber cement to attach the invite and mat.  We used all the tools Heather mentions in her blog as well (like the bone tool, cutter, etc).

What are your colors?  We used black and champagne, and cards and pocket was the only place I saw the color labeled "champagne."  I finally found a place that shows the brands they used and found that Opal from Stardreams is the same thing as champagne, so we were able to buy from Anchor Paper.  That link is here (clicky).

We got all our "guts" paper from Anchor Paper because they are the cheapest option out there and they have awesome customer service!  They are also located in MN so it's pretty quick shipping.  I think I got the paper the next day. We got the paper for the pocketfolds from JoAnn during a sale.  They do custom cuts, so if you follow Heather's instruction she gives the measurements you need.  We did the cards and pockets' "standard" version, so it was portrait.  We just ordered the normal 8.5x11 and designed our invites to fit on there.  If you are doing a portrait style you can fit 2 invites on one page and 4 inserts of differeing sizes on one page.  We did RSVP postcards and used the heaviest cardstock (from Anchor Paper) and fit 4 to a page.

We bought our envelopes from C&P because it was the cheapest, and it matched our colors perfectly!

We closed our invites very similar to the way this knottie (clicky) did. I got the embosser, stamps, ribbon and xyron all from michaels using a coupon each time.

We lined our invites with wrapping paper from target.

Our invites cost close to $1 before postage :)  We got SO many compliments from our guests.  People were SO SO surprised that we made them ourselves.  My cousin is getting married a couple months after me and she couldn't believe I made them myself and said she wished she could do as good of a job (she's ordering some since she gets a discount from her dad).  Every time someone says things like this I feel SO good inside.  They can never believe we made them!  I'll admit it was a PITA a lot of the time and we spent a lot of nights sitting there doing these invites, but I'm so happy we did them!

Now off to make the matching programs and all other paper things!  Less than 2 weeks, eek!

Let me know if you would like me to post a pic.

    Hi All,
Thanks so much ! I am going to explore each option. I may ask more questions!
My colors are black and actully the green letters on the message site :)

Had a little meltdown last night with trying to keep the guest list within reason and the idea of ALL the invites sent me a little over the edge :)

My colors are also black and apple green.  I got mine from michaels.  It came with the invitation, response card, directions card and all envelopes.  I $14 for each set of 40.  I'm getting them printed for 18 cents a piece at Office Max.  Together WITH the postage they will about $1.50.  The actual invitation seriously costed like 53 cents!

Debbies44 - all for $1 before postage? Wow I'm impressed and totally the price point I would like as we need to send ot close to 250 invites.
    - I did see Heather's pocket folds and at first could not figure our from one of the pictures why they were in 2 small pieces, but I think looking at it now, it looks like one was the cutout for the "pocket" and left over paper and the other was the "fold" portion.

If you did 2 invites to a page, did that mean your invites were approx. 4x5? and then how did you know what size for the response and reception card so they sit layered in the pocket fold and the envelope size?

I looked at anchor paper, but I have no idea where to begin and what type of paper etc. and how much to order.

Finally- it seems as if 123print.com gives you the envelopes. and at C&P it could get still pretty spendy with pre cut enclosures and pocket folds and evelopes no?

I had my invites done by Ellen at Paper Pleasers.  She did the legwork and picked out papers, did the printing, and design and I did the assembly.  It was a lot of fun because she was able to help with the other paper things (name cards, table numbers, thank yous) and we could use the same theme throughout and it had the colors and character that I wanted for a reasonable price.  I highly recommend her!

<div>Yup it was right around $1!  Our mat was 4.75x6.75 and our invite was 4.5x6.5.  The pocketfold was 5x7 in the invite section.  The pocket was 4x7 I think and then we had a 2x7 flap.  We just left a .5 inch between the cards so that we could have "RSVP" "directions" etc show through.  I think we started with 6.5x3.5 and went down from there.  And A7 envelope will work.</div><div>
</div><div>As for anchor paper: It looks like the closest green for you (if you want shimmery) would be "Stardreams Fairway". So lets say you wanted to do a black pocketfold.  If you want to do them like heather you can use her measurements and contact them for a custom cut on the size she states.  If not, just buy the 12x12 COVER weight in onyx.  You can purchase 250 sheets if you need that many invites.  You can get 10 packages of 25 for $11.50 each.  That's not too bad, but we paid only $7 at Joann for matte black paper from Joann.</div><div>
</div><div>Then you'll want to purchase 8.5x11 in the "Fairway".  You'll need 1.5 pages per invite depending on how many inserts you are doing.  We did 4 and all 4 took up one page the way we organized them.  If you want to do a mat (say in a white color) then you'll want to buy 8.5x11 in that as well.  You'll need .5 pieces of paper/invite for a mat.</div><div>
</div><div>You could buy A7 "meadow" from C&P or another website if you can find them cheaper, but in my research C&P was the cheapest.</div><div>
    </div><div>HTH!</div>

C&P and PaperandMore both give dimensions for the base card, invite, and inserts.  The insert width varies between the two companies by a half inch if I remember correctly. C&P recommends 3.5" and PaperandMore is 4".  The height of the inserts depends on how you want to stack them. Make sure they are different enough for the titles to show.  I think mine will vary by 3/4" each.   My base card is 4.5" x 6.5" and the invite is 4" x 6".  You will need a 4bar envelope for the RSVP's and the A7 envelope for the whole invitation.  .
