My mom suggested this but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, I wanted to get some other opinions. I'm a chef and my FI is a bartender so my mom suggested we make mini recipe/cocktail books to give our guests a more personal gift.
Here's a link to get an idea of what we would be going for:
http://tethered2home.com/?tag=mini-bookThey are indeed cute but my only reservation is that I'm not sure most of our guests would appreciate something like this. A large group of our guests are males still in college or recently graduated, so I can see them throwing the book in the floor board and never using it.
I realize favors are a pretty insignificant part of my wedding day but if I spend alot of time making these I at least want to know guests will like them. Does this seem like something you would like as a favor? Thanks for opinions.
Re: Is this a lame idea?
The truth behind a well laced dress
I think a better alternative would be to have your FI create signature cocktails (if you are having an open bar) and maybe have postcards they can take with the recipe on it and/or maybe do something like the PP suggested for the tables. IMO, the book seems like a lot of time, effort and expense that won't be appreciated. No one thinks personal favors are as neat as you do.
With All the Trimmings
My favors are going to be escort cards with a heart cut into them and a small bell hanging from the center. This will allow them to ring-for-a-kiss rather than hitting their glasses. I am also writing a small, whimsical poem on the back of the card. Maybe you could do something similar and have a recipe on the back. That would also incorporate your interests while being less time consuming and expensive.
[QUOTE]I think its cute, but a lot of work. You may find that you don't have time or this makes you more stressed than you need to be. I like the cookies or cocktail with matching recipe card idea, and the idea of making a few and putting them in a basket for those that want them.<strong> My favors are going to be escort cards with a heart cut into them and a small bell hanging from the center. FYI- these will be thrown away at the end of the night, or left on the table. It is NOT a favor.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but an escort card with a little bell on it will not be considered a "favor" to your guests. My hunch is that you'll be picking up 90% at the end of the evening, or leaving them to be tossed out, whimsical poem or not.
My wife makes these on the side and they were a HUGE hit at our wedding! We wrapped them around the stems of our wine glass and goblets. They cost $12/set of 4 and you can have them in your wedding colors. Your guests can take them and whenever they go to a party, they can mark their glass with the charm. matzj@turnerusd202.org
