Other people's weddings

Last night I was surfing facebook when I came across one of my friend's posts.  He was a groomsman in one of his friend's weddings.  As I was clicking through the pictures, I noticed.... she had on my dress!  I do not know this girl and I know most of my guests won't either.  So I'm not worried about that.  It just made me realize that clearly other brides have my dress.  We have a ton of weddings to go to this year.  I don't know what I would do if one of the weddings the bride is wearing my dress.  I would probably tackle FI to cover his eyes and say, "We gotta go!"  lol.  I would just panic.
Have any of you girls gone a wedding this year and saw the bride in your dress?  Has anyone thought of how they would handle it if they did?

Re: Other people's weddings

  • If you go to a wedding and the bride is wearing the same dress just don't say anything. Chnces are he won't remember anyway - grooms are into dresses the way we are.

My dress is discontinued and I purchased it at a sample sale so no worries about FI seeing it elsewhere, plus (for once) we don't have any other weddings this year (yet).

  • I found someone who had my dress too that I knew. It was almost heartbreaking, but whatever. I am just going to look better in it. All I noticed was how horrible her arms looked, so I have been working those babies out!!! LOL Think of it as a positive, you can see what things looked bad, and you can make sure you work on them or get it fixed now, and you have the chance to look way hotter!!! :)

  • An old friend of mine from high school, who I'm only still connected to through Facebook, wore my dress, and weighs about thirty pounds less than I do so it drove me nuts. :( I'm trying to not think about it. I'm obviously failing, ha.

  • I've seen other people with my dress on my photographer's blog.  I don't know any of these people, and doubt that my guests know them either.  I've noticed that each bride who's worn this dress does something to make it their own.  For example, one bride modified the sweetheart neck line into a less severe sweetheart, people wear different veils (or no veil), people wear it in different shades of white/ivory.  I added lace covered buttons down the back of my dress.  Even though other's have had the same dress, I had to look twice at it to even tell that it was mine.

I also saw my dress on an episode of Say Yes to the Dress (the Kleinfeld's one).  FI was in the room, and I got really excited that they were showing my dress.  FI didn't even notice...I think he tunes me out when I watch wedding shows LOL!

Bottom line, I wouldn't stress about it.

  • This is something I feel I wouldn't need to think about...my dress is a spring 09 style and had to be ordered for me without trying it on. Of course I wouldn't have done that if I hadn't tried it on in 09! So I doubt anyone will have it but if they did I can't imagine my reaction!

  • I haven't seen anyone with my dress.  One time it was pinned by another random bride and it made me smile!

  • My dress is fairly new and I've only seen one other person in my dress and it was another bride posting about her just buying it in the attire and accessories board.

We aren't going to any weddings and I haven't heard any of our friends say they are going to any weddings so I highly doubt anyone willl see my dress in the near future.  Definitely not before our wedding at least.

  • I saw my dress on Bridezillas and was quite appalled! LOL it was very hard to refrain from saying anything to FI about it.

  • On my local board another girl had my dress, but I know that I will be changing several things about it.  Adding sleeves, taking the flower off the belt, and making it my own.   I have my first fitting next month and cannot wait to start seeing these changes!

  • This isn't something I am too concerned about.  The designer for my gown, Robin Jillian, is very particular about only having 1 store in each region carry her gowns.  I am hoping it won't be an issue.  If it is, I'm going to have to bite my tongue to not say something to my FI.  We only have 2 weddings this year, so we should probably be okay.
  • I haven't but I've only gone to one other wedding recently. My dress is discontinued from Davids and I'm adding cap sleeves so even if he somehow sees it on someone else it won't look exactly the same.  I wouldn't stress about it. Like achi said, guys aren't into dresses the way girls are so they won't remember.

  • I haven't seen my dress on anyone...or in any pictures of anyone I know through a friend either...I would try not to compare myself to the other person....and maybe do something to make it a little different (like a brooch, belt or flower)

  • I would freak out.  Thankfully, my dress is a prom dress, so we're safe.

  • While at my FMIL house she took out a book of photos from her friends daughters wedding and she was wearing my dress.    I did my best to keep it to myself but I had to tell her and she almost let it slip to fi!  I don't think FI even remembers seeing those pitures nevermind what the dress look likes.

Even if you were at a wedding where the bride was wearing your dress it wouldn't matter to your FI he will be looking at YOU in the dress and it will be completely different.

  • Mine is on the david's bridal commericals, I saw it in a photographers portfolio that I was interested in, and I know its a popular style (people always asking for it on the resell bridal sites), but we have no weddings to go to this year. Im not worried about it since it will look different on me.

  • I recently went to a wedding and the thought crossed my mind "what if she wears my dress??".  Thankfully she didn't, but I wouldn't have told FI if she was wearing it.  As one PP said, they don't remember those things anyway lol!
