Ok, so my wedding is 8 days away and one of my BMs has just developed pink eye this morning. She went to the doc, and they said the case is quite severe and could take over a week to go away

What do I do??? She's one of my best friends and I want her there for all of the festivities, but I CANNOT come down with pink eye myself. And I'm not just concerned about catching it before the wedding, but I don't want it on the honeymoon either.
Ideas??? How do I have her there for the pics and in the wedding without risking her spreading it to either me or one of my other BMs?
Re: BM with pink eye :(
Even when I had severe pink eye it took 2/3 days to clear up with the eye drops.
It will probably be cleared up by the wedding.
I had pink eye not too long ago and after a few days the eye drops managed to make it look all better, you're supposed to keep using the eye drops even after the "symptoms" go away for up to a week just to ensure it's taken care of.
Don't freak out, leave it up to your BM if she feels up to being in the wedding party with it.
...and it goes without saying I would hope, but if she is there for your big day, DO NOT share makeup with her! Probably not a good idea for her to put on eye makeup of any kind till the pink eye is completely gone.
Just be careful..be sure you both wash your hands, don't share anything.
BUT maybe just to put your mind at ease, I would talk to my normal doctor or nurse practitioner over the phone, tell them what's going on and see what they say about prescribing you some drops "just in case." If you are planning on traveling outside of the US for a honeymoon, I would rather plan for a worst case scenario and pack some hopefully non-necessary meds rather than trying to get it filled in another country while I was feeling lousy. But then again, I'm also a huge worry wort and over-planner, so there's that.
Just don't touch her eyes (or use the same pen) and make sure to wash your hands a lot and avoid touching your face when you're around her until it's cleared up.
[QUOTE]<strong>Just make sure she isn't rubbing her eyes and then touching things. While pink eye is highly contaigious, you can drastically reduce spreading it by just being very very careful. </div><div>This. It can also spread from eye to eye to have her be extra cautious. I had pink eye and usually within 2 days the redness went away with the drops. As long as she is careful you will be fine. I was fairly careful when I had it and FI never got it. You can call your doc if you want but I highly doubt they would prescribe you something if you don't have symptoms.

That's an excellent idea. It's highly unlikely you'd need it since she'll almost definitely be better by your wedding anyway, but it's a really good idea to throw the medicine into your bag and have it worse comes to worst.
[QUOTE]She should probably be fine within a few days. If she feels like she may still be contagious around the wedding, talk to her and just make sure the two of you are really safe about touching her eyes (wiping away tears, possibly) and hugging and definitely no makeup sharing. I would think you would end up just fine. <strong>BUT maybe just to put your mind at ease, I would talk to my normal doctor or nurse practitioner over the phone, tell them what's going on and see what they say about prescribing you some drops "just in case." Does your Doctor often prescribe medications to you when you fear you might get an illness ?
I'd steer clear of her for a few days if you could, 'til the worst of her infection/contagiousness is over.

I'm certain my doctor would give me that script in these circumstances. It's not like you'd do anything else fun or interesting with eye drops for pink eye.
[QUOTE]In Response to Re: BM with pink eye :( : Before we went to Mexico, my doctor wrote me a script for Cirpo JIC I got traveler's diarrhea. THANK GOD I never had to take any.<strong> It's not like OP would be asking about Oxycontin or a highly controlled substance.

Ditto this. My GP frequently writes me preemptive antibiotic scripts when I travel, because I get massive ear infections pretty much every time I fly (I've been to emergency rooms in 3 states! Yay me!). If she was asking for something that is a controlled substance or has a recreational use, then yeah, it'd be crazy of the doctor to write a preemptive prescription, but antibiotic eyedrops? I don't think it would be a big deal.

<div>Most doctors usually throw antibiotics at everything without question. My doc isn't one of them. I had to beg him for the drops when I HAD pinkeye. Awful.</div>
I would not have thought that doctors pre-prescricbed medication other than like in Duds situation. Learning new things everyday.
If your BM is on antibiotics for a week, she probably won't be contagious so I'm sure you'll be fine.
Just don't treat her like a leper.
RSVP Date: July 25th
If she takes her meds the way she should, I guarantee you it will be cleared up by the wedding.
