Staying on Track through the Holidays!!

My FI and I got engaged in October. That is when I decided I needed to lose some weight. I have lost 5 lbs since then. But my goal is 40lb (thats what I am shooting for at least) Wedding is next September. How do you kee Pon track through the holidays?? I am a school teacher and a coach so I do not get to workout as often as I like. Right now I have been focusing on what I eat and counting calories and working out when I can. But between our families and both of our work. We have 8 christmas party/dinners to attend to that are going to be full of sweets and unhealthy foods in the next 12 days What do I do to not gain those 5 lbs back and continue to lose weight during the holidays! HELP!

Re: Staying on Track through the Holidays!!

  • Don't worry about the exercise.  It's great, don't get me wrong, but your food intake plays a much bigger part in your weight loss.

At holiday parties, concentrate on keeping your calories at a normal level but don't deprive yourself.  Pick out which foods are healthy or healthy-ish and predominantly eat those.  I'm a big fan of veggie platters since you can fill up on truly healthy foods to avoid gorging (and I would otherwise) on the bad-for-you deliciousness instead of being able to stop after just one.  Don't deny yourself.  Have a slice of pie,  a cookie, devilled eggs, some cheese dip.  Just don't have an excessive amount of servings.

I've found that by not denying myself foods I like and just having them in moderation, I am much happier working on my diet than I have been previously, I'm learning good eating habits, and the weight is still coming off.

    Good luck!
  • My personal goal is to maintain exactly where I am at through the holidays, and then pick back up with my weight loss after the holidays. I want to enjoy the holidays, but like you, I have worked hard to loose weight, and do not want to gain it back! To maintain, I am running the morning after every holiday party, and am eating A LOT less during the day prior to the party. Of course, eat something before you go to the party (fruit/veggies), and try to stay away from the sweets! It's gonig to be hard, but a nice wedding body is a great motivator!! Good luck, and enjoy the holidays!
  • kendalldavis, I would say just keep your goal in mind at all times through the holidays! I'd say more realistically you should try to maintain through the holidays rather than lose, but if you're determined to keep shedding lbs, fill up on all healthy things and then choose one treat for yourself. Try to keep alcohol consumption down because those add up fast! Good luck! Be sure to update us when the holidays are over!

This is what I'm doing as well.  If I lose a little it'll be great, but if not I won't stress about it.
  • I plan to head for the unbuttered veggies and load my plate with them. Then try a little of everything else. Like the others have said, maintain, maintain, maintain. It's hard enough to lose the first time! So enjoy and treat yourself well by giving yourself some more of the colorful stuff on your plate.

  • What helps me is eating a fiber-rich meal or large snack prior to holiday parties.  If I'm already full I'm less likely to eat a ton at the party.  I also work out hard the morning of parties.

    Good luck ladies!
