We just did our first registry!  We went to Crate & Barrel, and registered for about 60 things.  It was a lot of fun!  And they gave us a really cute set of champagne flutes whose opening is shaped like a heart as a gift.  Super sweet!  It was really fun and really easy.

Then we stopped by Williams & Sonoma since there's a few high-end items we'd like to register for (we're both total foodies, so kitchen stuff is our splurge on the registry for sure).  Not nearly as easy, but they did give us a cute little cookbook as a gift (though it's sort of a sales tactic, since each recipe shows which items you can buy from them to make it).

We also want to register at Bed Bath & Beyond, and I think that'll be it! 

FI really wants a fancy set of dishes (china) and a daily set of dishes.  But I'm just afraid to register for fragile things like china and glassware since we'll be moving so much!  I feel like it's not worth asking for something really breakable and then having to stress about packing it up and worrying that it will break in transit.  As military spouses, have you registered for expensive delicate items?  Is it worth it?

    I would stick with a simple white set of every day dishes.  You can dress them up for holidays with different color chargers, linens and accent items.  Plain white dishes can also easily be replaced if anything breaks durring a move.

    We just did every day dishes. We got fiestaware, because A: I'm in love with it, I love how sturdy it is (my mom says their too heavy, but I don't think so at all), and ALLLL THEEEE COLORRRRSS!!! (We got Scarlet and Cobalt), and B: Because it's not TERRIBLY expensive, so that way if pieces get broken in all of the moves that lie in our future, it won't be a big deal to replace like 1 plate or something. and C: They come out with a new Christmas design every year, and I started last year collecting them. I got 1 plate, 1 bowl, and a cup, and then this coming Christmas, I'll get the same in whatever design they have this year. I love that their Christmas design incorporates all the current colors too.

    Oh!! I wanted to get "Chirp" by Lennox, but I'm afraid to get such expensive china, when we probably won't ever use it, annd it's expensive and I'd feel terrible if I broke it or something.

    I didn't register for china yet for that same reason. My  mom and I agreed to wait until we have a house or something and then she would either help us buy a set or give us her set (which I love). I ended up getting an everyday set for Jcpenney when they were having a sale. (well my mom got for me lol). It's just white and simple for everyday use but can look fance if need be.

    Also, I loved registering and I admit that I'm also a registery stalker. I didn't want to be, but I am. I check it all the time. Invitations just went out for my shower and almost half the things are gone too.

    WE DID Fieastaware too! I am in love with that stuff.. and its was on sale  (came in a set of large plate, smaller plate, a bowl, and mug for $24.99!) I got 3 or 4 different colors and can't wait! I can also say they last forever, I have been using hand-me-down yellow stuff for the last 5-6 years and it still looks brand new, Good Will was super excited to take it off my hands too LoL

    Calindi we didn't register for any fine china because we are the type of people that want every day use things. His mother did get a some fancy crystal hurricane candle holders. Thats as breakable as we got :) besides for wine and glasses. I did open them to make sure they were not broken but packaged them back up for the big move after the wedding.

    I would say to look to the future, if H plans on making it a "career" and retiring I wouldn't register for them, if he plans on serving 8 yrs or so, and you would use them for fancy parties, holidays, and special occasions, order them have your mom or a family member who you trust store them for you until discharged.
     
    That way you will have something "still new" from your memorable day( all the great memories all coming back)  to use for the first time. IMO I don't beleive having good china just to look at behind glass in a china cabnit and never use it.

    If you order fine china you may also want to consider reg. for good silverware as well. You may be amazed how many ppl will buy a place setting or serving dishes.  Like pp stated use white and dress them up for now :) Good luck.

    I loved making our registry too!  We only did one at Target, but had a great time making it.  And I was a complete registry stalker.  

    We didn't do any china because we aren't at all fancy people and knew we would never use it.  Plus everyone I know who has it says they never use it.  Our dishes are actually a set that I had bought from before I even met H.  There was a Mikasa outlet by my parent's house that went out of business, and I got 8 place settings for a total of $50, and just had them in my closet for when I moved out.  They are just solid navy blue square plates, and the smaller plate has a criss-cross pattern on it.   Since they were so cheap, I also bought the serving platter, serving bowl, and the cream and sugar set.  I think with everything I didn't even hit $80, and I love out stuff.

    My parents live near this place called "Replacements Ltd" they specilize in finding/restoring/buying vintage china and stuff. I went with them yesterday, and I was in heaven!! They had fiestaware from 1936 when they introduced it. It was amazing!!!

    I love registering! We didn't register for china for the reasons mentioned above. We did a BB&B registry and an Amazon one. The Amazon one is nice because you can add stuff from any website. Like this little number (which we really did register for).

    Be careful with Amazon. My Cousin registered there and they were constantly changing "sellers" as many sell the same thing and she had a terrible time working with some of them and Amazon never notified them of the change. This was almost 2 years ago and hope they have since addresses such problems.
