Engagement Photos in Toronto

Hi all,

Our engagement photo session is in one week and we're still looking for the perfect place in Toronto.  Any suggestions?  Our wedding will be by the lake so we'll do photos by the water then.  We are looking for either a beautiful natural setting (High Park?) and / or somewhere with interesting architecture (Distillery?).  Preferably somewhere that does not require a permit.

Thanks for your help!!

The distillery requires a permit, which they'll ask for if they see you doing photos. I did a photoshoot there once but finished it just when the "officials" came to check the permit.

We did our e-session at brick works in the nature area, we didn't have a permit though I don't know if we were supposed to.

We did ours around the streets of Toronto - The Esplanade, King East, King West - wherever we saw great opportunities.  Great little alleyways on King West that are restaurants during the week, but we went on a Sunday evening around 5 when it was less busy, and they were empty to be used.  You can check out our pictures in my bio under "photography."

My fiance and I had our engagement shoot around the Yonge and Dundas area at night.  The lights at Dundas Square made our pictures turn out great!  We also went into the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel (across the Eaton centre) and Nathan Phillips Square.

the financial district is modern and looks very chic in pics, or for a more natural atmosphere tommy thompson park is awesome too. :)

I think you have to pay for photo rights... But the lifeguard house on Kew Beach is beautiful and romantic. There are also lots of other lovely shots to be had on the water and but the rocks.

    Best of luck!

Engagement pictures are important in my mind since it allows you to get to know the photographer better and see what you look like.  My photographer is doing two sessions with us.  We did one and I'm waiting to do another one with him.

Our photographer is doing an engagment shoot sale at the moment.  I can't find the link to the blog post but it's $125 dollars right now.  It's over 50% off or something like that.  I'll find the link and post it.

We ended up doing our photos at Brick Works; very interesting location!  I've also learned that it really doesn't matter that much where you take the photos; it's the two of you that will shine through regardless of where you are.

PS We didn't get a permit; our photographer suggested the place at the last minute.

So glad you found a location that you loved - and you're right - you can make ANY place a great place for a shoot if you are comfortable and happy!  Can't wait to see pictures! :)
