Getting married on a tennis court :(

I origionally plan on having my ceremony outdoors at my reception location but Its on a tennis court...and I think it looks somewhat tacky lol! Im looking for a new place to have our ceremony. My fiance and I dont religiously practice any specific religion so I think that makes churches a No Go. My reception is taking place in Latham. Does anyone have any ideas of a nice outdoors/indoor place for JUST the ceremony? Thank you!!

Oh hey. I am about 95% sure we have the same venue. Century House?

Hahaha yes! At first I saw pics of the cermonies on the tennis court and it didnt look so bad, but then I saw a video and It looked kind of funny...not sure. Im going to see if Marge can let me pop in on a wedding before it starts so I can see how it looks!

Ooh, there was a video? Where?

See, I didn't have that much beef with the tennis court. I think I was having too much "I can get married outside?!" excitement at the time, given that we had been looking at November for the wedding and I had pretty much given up on the idea.

    Ah, I see.

Well, I can't be much help in thinking of an alternative ceremony site - all told, I was pretty okay with the whole tennis court thing. But it is still cool to find a vendor buddy. :) Checking with Marge about seeing it set up is a good idea. Let me know how it goes!

Hi, sorry to hijack this for a minute - how do you like the Century House? We just booked them for late May next year for an afternoon lunch reception.

    Any tips?

Can't say as I have tips, since FI and I only booked our date a couple weeks ago and haven't really done anything in terms of tastings or planning specific details. I will say that we fell for the site way harder than we expected to. Frankly, we were just killing time until our appointment with the venue we thought we really wanted that afternoon - which we ended up canceling because we signed with Century House on the spot!

Which room are you using? Are you having your ceremony on-site as well? Did you get to meet with Marge? (She is super awesome!) Did you pick a particular package, or did you customize one?

Yes, we signed up a few months ago for our AHR. We are doing it all in the front room - we are a small party (~40) next May.

We are doing our vows in front of the fireplace.

I have to say I haven't been thrilled working with them, maybe they aren't happy that I'm a smaller party but we fought a lot on the contract (which room/menu options). We also had a lot of go-arounds on the times. They were really unhappy with me wanting a lunch event on Saturday.

They wanted to slap me with a $500 bartender fee because I was doing a consumption bar instead. I told them if they did, I was walking. So we compromised on a waiter taking orders (average age of our guest list in 50+....so they won't miss it). Maybe its just me, but I'm not paying 1/5 of my budget to a bartender for less than 2 hrs.

It wasn't a pleasant experience, I just hope by May they turn around. If not, I get to spend time with family, which is the entire reason we are doing this.

It took me about 3 times to get a hold of Marge. Can't say I've been impressed with their customer service so far. We went for lunch and it took them 50 minutes to serve a party of 6. I really hope they were just short staffed.

As you can tell, we booked this place to make our parents happy. It matters little to me, but I hope I can stay ontop of the contract so they don't screw us over. They didn't comment on my feedback - I sent it back with changes after I signed it, and they seemed to accept them. We shall see how it goes, but per contract law (not a lawyer, just had one review it with me) they accepted our condtions.

Sorry to hear that your experience hasn't been that great so far. That's actually the first negative review I've heard about them. O_o
