Wedding shoes!

For my wedding shoes I don't want to wear heels.  It's for a number of reasons (don't want to be taller than my FI, comfort, etc. etc.)  I was thinking to get something like converse, so that I would be comfy and could then double purpose my shoes and wear them on the honeymoon.  You can even write stuff on them now, like my new name or something.  What are some other suggestions.  Some people think the converse thing is overdone or tacky.  I do not want to wear toms.  I realize they are a charity, but I think they are ugly... I am open for suggestions and would really appreciate some ideas.  I try to talk to my FI.  He just nods and says "Sounds great!!" typical... haha

  • Count me among those who think the converse thing is overdone and not cute.

There are a lot of pretty, comfortable flats out there that are wedding appropriate.
  • The only issue I have with something like Converse is that I've never seen someone walk GRACEFULLY in them. Why spend a ton of money on a dress and other accessories if you're just going to clunk around in Converse?

I like the blinged out ballet flat idea. I love ballet flats, and they will likely be much cheaper and easier to find that personalized Converse.

  • See, I don't really like flats.  I usually think they are way uncomforable. Like pinching or rubbing.  I totally get the tacky converse thing.  They are my everyday shoe, but I totally get not appropriate for a wedding.  I thought about getting sandals actually. I really like these ones   http://www.buckle.com/naughty-monkey-sweetie-sandal/prd-60060SWEETIE/sku-3940984150
My mother hated them.  I know, I know. my wedding. What can I say? I am a people pleaser.

I am looking for a perfect pair of ballet flats.
There are some that are elastic satin, so those might be more comfy than normal ones.
Maybe that would be an option for you?

  • I actually LOVE those sandals soontobehanby! Cute and they look totally comfy. And the ankle strap will be nice so they will stay on your feet.

  • I think sandals or flats are a great idea.  I wish I had worn flats to my wedding instead of heels...but oh well.

I agree that flats can be uncomfortable at first.  I really have to break mine in to keep them from rubbing and pinching, but if I put the effort in then they can be really comfortable.

  • Stry a nice pair of sandals or ballet slippers, not ballet flats like these http://www.dancedistributors.com/view_catalog.php?pid=17004&Shop=Style&SID=374085108. or thesehttp://www.dancedistributors.com/shop/style_S1C.html?pid=62&Shop=Style&SID=374085525
Having danced for years, ballet slippers are super comfortable and the canvas ones are easy to dye and add sparkle with sequins etc, while the leather ones are easy to spray paint. Good luck!

  • I say wear what you want. It might seem tacky or overdone to the knotties because wedding stuff is the main focus here, but your guests may not have seen this yet. And if it's totally you - who cares what we think?

I saw a gal and a guy who wore Converse to their wedding. When they went to kneel for prayer you could see "He" and "Won" written on the bottom of her shoes and "She" and "Won" written on the bottom of his. Made everyone laugh.

  • While looking for my shoes, I found these: http://www.etsy.com/shop/mohop
I love this idea (our wedding will be outside and fairly casual) and the reviews say these are super comfortable. I ended up picking out a different shoe, partly because I was worried about the wait time for orders, but I think these would have been awesome. I have trouble finding shoes that are comfortable, and these seem to be easily altered to fit any foot type.

  • Me and all my bridesmaids are probably wearing chucks.  Orange ones in fact. I am for sure. I'm not doing it to be quirky or cute, I'm doing it for comfort.  I HATE shoes. I can't even walk normal in any kind of high heel. I love ballet flats, but they are not an all day shoe. Flip flops are great, but aren't supportive for all day either.  I also hate dresses, and wearing make-up and brushing my hair, let alone having it fixed.  Sigh, I am not a girly girl in the slightest.

With that said, wear whatever shoe makes you feel comfrotable, they are your feet, and you know what makes them happy.  If you squeeze into heels or flats, just to wear an "appropriate shoe", you'll probably be uncormfortable and it can show in photos. Converse and toms may be over done, but with good reason!

Nobody is going to say "what a terrific wedding, too bad the bride wore chucks, how inappropriate!"
