bridesmaids dress timing issue

Quick question: is 6 months out a reasonable amount of time to order BM dresses? I'm considering having everyone order through JCrew, which would only take a few days to be delivered. The wedding consultant said that my color/styles were not due to be discontinued, but they may go out of stock. If that happens, then we'd need to order through a regular bridal shop that would take 4ish months. Oh, and I don't live near any of the BMs, so I'd love to get this wrapped up on my next trip home in a few weeks.

Also, how do you feel about black shoes with a knee length dress like: http://www.jcrew.com/wedding/Wedding_Bridesmaid/silkchiffon/PRDOVR~47993/47993.jsp

I think more of my friends would have black shoes in their closet versus silver. I'd love for them to just wear what they have.

  • Black shoes are fine, and six months is a reasonable amount of time to order a BM dress.  My girls ordered at around the 7 month mark from DB - it was a little early, but we already had the dress picked out, so they decided to just buy it.

  • I think it just depends on the turn around time. I feel like they always tell you to order it "right then and there" because they just want to make the sale. Leaving gives you time to think, continue to look, and change your mind.

I just went to DB with my gals yesterday, and they will have to order by late April for an October destination wedding. The consultant told us that it can take up to 12 weeks for the coral dresses we are getting to come in, then add time for alterations on top of that.
