I must begin by thanking Kayla for introducing me to what can only be described as heaven in my mouth. We met with Jeff Perila (sweettreatsbyjeff.com) today and I feel like my eyes have been opened to this whole amazing world of cake that I never knew existed. (Yes, I am in an overly dramatic state right now, induced by the cake.)
We sampled the French vanilla with white chocolate mousse (omg the mousse....) and the chocolate dipped strawberry cake (pure, unbridled bliss). They were both phenomenal!! If you don't have a cake person yet, you must make an appointment with him immediately

Side note, we sampled Buttercream last week, and not only was I not impressed with the cake, I actually disliked it. The frosting actually TASTES like BUTTER!! Seriously, a stick of butter. G-ross. Plus, the price he quoted us for the bare minimum decoration, etc. was almost $700 for 180 people. (Jeff quoted us a third of that price, for filled amazing cake.) And don't even get me started on the guy who was "selling" us the cake. He constantly used the word "upcharge" as in, "Oh, you want more than one color on your cake? That's an upcharge. Oh, you want to use our pedestals? That's an upcharge." I asked him to point out cakes that didn't have an upcharge, and out of about 40 cakes in the store, he pointed out maybe 5. And they were really, really plain.
Okay, enough about how much Buttercream kinda sucked. Call Jeff. Try his cake. Experience what FI called "a serious aphrodisiac." Haha TMI, maybe.... but seriously.
Re: The most. amazing. cake. ever.
I will definitely keep Jeff in mind! Are his prices reasonable?
Posted by FutureMrsSheeler
VERY reasonable. For a three-tier filled cake (bottom faux), 15 dozen filled cupcakes, and delivery, its about $370. Since we don't have to pay the cake cutting fee at our venue with cupcakes, its actually cheaper than doing sheet cakes!
Totally coming out of lurking... I have read that so many of you dislike Buttercream and I am seriously surprised! I have gotten all of my birthday cakes at the place in Deephaven and my bf and I love them! A while ago, someone said that they found the person they worked with rude and the store dirty and I have never found that! I know there is another location though. Idk, I guess I am just surprised is all.

We were at the location on Highway 7 in Minnetonka - I assume that is probably considered the Deephaven one? I didn't necessarily think the store was dirty, but the guy was definitely not pleasant to work with.
Welcome out of lurking! :)
@Jenn920 - Did you happen to notice any just pieces of cake or cupcakes or anything for sale in the store, like by the counter or something? Ever since I've done my 6 tastings in Vegas I kinda have a little obsession for good cake:) His sounds so good it makes me want to try it without having to get a whole cake!
Posted by Sara191431
He does his baking out of his home (he stays home with his twin boys) but I am sure if you wanted to place a small order for just a few cupcakes, he would be happy to make them for you! I would think that he definitely has leftover cupcakes when he does tastings, since I doubt he could/would just make two of each flavor at a time - so he'd probably be happy to sell them to you!! You won't be disappointed if you try them, I promise :)
That sounds like the most wonderful cake coma :) Did you not end up going with Terry, then? I've gotten a quote from her over the phone, but she hasn't responded to any of my e-mails...
Posted by newlyseliski
We did decide not to go with Terry... I don't have a good reason, unfortunately. She was going to make a cake for my birthday for us to taste, and then she had to cancel - so we just decided to check out a few others that we could taste. While we were setting up the tastings, I spoke with her and I guess her husband ended up in the hospital for emergent surgery and she was going to be tied up with that for a while. In the mean time, we met with Jeff and while he is slightly more expensive (aprrox $70), his cake was too good to pass up. I feel really bad about not going with Terry (she is so sweet!) but after tasting Jeff's white chocolate mousse, there was just no going back!
ONE MORE QUESTION :) Does he do fondant?
Posted by FutureMrsSheeler
He said he does do fondant, but he prefers frosting. I kinda got the impression that his cake "vision" is primarily about the amazing flavors, and presentation secondarily. The pictures are beautiful, and they are all without fondant. It wasn't an issue for FI and I, because we despise the taste of fondant and don't really care if the cake is completely smooth. But I would definitely ask him about it!
