Knottie alum looks for recs

Hello ladies,

I used to post here pretty regularly while I was planning my wedding in 2008/2009, and now I'm looking for a few recommendations for my upcoming anniversary. I also posted this on the nest board, but unfortunately it tends to be pretty quiet, so I thought you all might be able to help.

First, I'm looking for some restaurant recs for MH and I's anniversary dinner. Preferably something in Fort Worth or the mid-cities. We like all kinds of food, so any suggestions are welcome. We're looking for something nice, but not overly expensive, just someplace with good food, good service and a nice atmosphere.

Second, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any bakeries that make egg-free cakes? Our wedding cake was pretty sad, and I'd like to have a small cake made for our anniversary, but MH is allergic to eggs and nuts.

TIA!!

Im not help for the restaurant since I never frequent FW to eat but I know Sublime Bakery in FW makes cakes like that; sugar free, gluten free, vegan cakes.

    HTH!!

I don't know that area very well so I can't recommend restaurants, but definitely check out Sublime Bakery. My sister used to work for her, and while I've never tasted her vegan cakes, I can tell you that she only uses the best ingredients and really cares about the special diet cakes because her son has food allergies.

I love Texas de Brazil. I don't know how much time you have, but sign up for their emails and every so often, you can get a pretty good discount through them.

There is another restaurant on 4th across the street from Bass Hall and it was pretty good also. I can't remember the name though.

EDIT: Okay I had to go look up the name and it is called Ferre Ristorante e Bar.

Also here is a webpage with lots of places in Sundance square.

For our (dating) anniversary, we went to Lambert's in Fort Worth. It's a mix of rustic steak and whiskey place & fancy. FI loves it, and I've never had a bad meal there.

If you're looking for something really different, try Covery Restaurant and Brewery in Fort Worth. Their atmosphere was really great, and most of the things on their menu were new to me - I think my FI got antelope and I got some other kind of meat I'd never tried. It was good, and made for a fun evening!

But I also second PP recs of Texas de Brazil and Reata. I haven't been to either - yet. This is just my impression, but I think if you want a more romantic dinner, I'd choose Reata out of those two. I think they have tables with great views, etc. But Texas de Brazil sounds really fun - although everytime my FI has come home from there, he moans about how stuffed he is for a few hours.

I second both the Covey and Ferre

Also - The Sprial Diner in FW does vegan cakes, so they would be egg free. They are also tasty, my friend had her wedding cake done by them.

    HTH!

My favorite restaurant in FW is Taverna. The food is so good and the atmosphere is fantastic. It's also not too pricey.

Some other suggestions are Reata, Eddie V's, Cantina Laredo and Gloria's.

I'm not sure about the cake's though. The only bakery that I'm really familiar wiith in FW is J. Rae's but I've only been there for specialty cookies. It's worth a call though!

My favorite restaurant in FW is Lonesome Dove Western Bistro.  It's unique and absolutely delicious - we try to go about once a year and it's our go-to restaurant whenever we have friends/family visiting from out of town.  (The last two times I've been there, I had a chorizo-stuffed trout with sweet potatoes, and I still dream about that dish.)  I don't know what counts as expensive for you, but the prices are available on the online menu (http://www.lonesomedovebistro.com/dinnermenu.pdf)   I'd recommend the main dishes, sides, and desserts if you're concerned about cost.  The appetizers are really interesting and unique, but not very big portions in relation to the price.  (If your budget allows for it, the kangaroo nachos are really interesting!)

Thanks for all the recommendations ladies! I'll be sure to check into all of them, our anniversary is two weeks from today, so hopefully we can pick something this week :)

I'll also look into the bakeries!
