Alterations for Dress: Opinions?

Hello ladies,

I'm considering having some alterations done to my dress, and I was curious to see what y'all thought. FI has mentioned liking sweetheart necklines and corset backs before (only after I explained what those terms meant during various casual discussions about the dress), so I was thinking about trying to alter my dress to have both. It has gorgeous beading/embroidery all over the front and back, so I was afraid to mess with it, but I would like the dress to have features that he likes. Anyway, here's the link to the dress, thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Re: Alterations for Dress: Opinions?

  • I'm not a seamstress, have only dabbled in sewing a few times but I think that would require so much work it would cost as much as the dress to alter.
  • Announcement: When it comes to bridal... men have no idea what they want! A friend of mine that just got married accidentally left her computer open with her dress selections. He said (after she bought it, but he didn't know it was hers) that her dress was hideous and he hoped she would never wear it. Day of the wedding he said it was the most beautiful dress he had ever seen!

Don't worry about it... your dress is beautiful!

  • I think, if you want one, a sweetheart neckline would be relatively easy to add. The corset back would be more difficult, but I've known someone who did that to a dress and to her, the cost was worth it. If that's something you still want to pursue, find a good seamstress and talk to her.

  • I love your dress and I personally wouldn't change it. If you do though I would talk with a seamstress because changing the dress into a corset back could really change the look of the entire dress. But if I were you, I would save the money in alterations and keep the dress the way it is.
  • Thanks so much, ladies! I really appreciate your help! :-)
