Trying Not to Judge - A Poll

I went to the company cafeteria and there was a guy in front of me with a bagel/cream cheese and he charged it on his credit card.  It was $1.44.  I have no idea if this card was actually credit or if it (as a credit card) debits the money from the guy's checking account, but if that's the case, I would think it would be a nightmare to keep track of a checking account with small amounts deducted frequently.  Anyway, a lot of people seem to use credit cards at the cafeteria for low amounts which can be annoying because it always slows down the line.

Now for my question (and I promise not to judge - I'm just curious):

Once you've had your wallet get lost/stolen twice, you learn your lesson and stop carrying cash.  I pay for everything with a credit card, then pay it off every month.  I get monster reward points that way too.

I never carry cash so I always use my debit card. I balance my checkbook at least once a week.

I try not to charge little amounts, but I'm also horrible at having cash onhand, so I occasionally charge things like a cup of coffee at the gas station.  Fortunately, they often don't require a signature for small amounts, so it doesn't slow things down any more than having to count out change does.

I always use my debit card, no matter the purchase.  I signed up for the BofA keep the change program, so it helps me save money without thinking about putting money into savings.   I check my account frequently, and don't keep much in my checking anyway, so I don't find it too difficult to keep track of.

I'm too lazy to go put money into my checking account, and since I'm 2 hours away from my bank now it's even more difficult. So I always just use cash. Like 90% of the time.

I hardly ever have cash, so I'm always using the debit card.  We do have a credit card, but only use it for hotel and car rental reservations.

We keep track of the online statement so it's not a big deal to know what we have in the account.  The only things we write checks for are rent and offering at church.

DH and I live off the cash-envelope system, so we hardly ever use our debit/credit cards for anything but gas, online purchases, and big emergencies.

I use a credit card for everything to get rewards points.  Under $2 (like when I but thread) I use cash to get rid of change.  DH used to use cash for food at the hospial, so we have quite a bit of change....

I never use credit. I'm morally opposed to it haha. I try to withdraw my weekly allowence from my bank account and stay within that. We're also fans of the FPU program and can't wait to be debt free. There really is no such thing as "good debt".

I do, however, have a work credit card that I use for EVERYTHING purchased for work. From .50 to 2,000 everything goes on the card. It makes reimbursment so much easier if I know that everything on the card isn't mine and needs to be paid off by the office.

I use my debit card for everything. I do have a 2nd checking set up for checks only because some people take forever and a day to cash stuff sometimes. And yes, I do use my main debit crad for measely purchases like a Large Coke at Sonic Drive-In during the afternoon promo when the total is like $.96 cents. I check my account frequently, never balanced a checkbook since I have a separate acct for checks, and I write out my bills on a sheet of paper each pay period while keeping track of my bills in Microsoft Excel. My credit union is in my hometown - 700 miles away & I wouldn't trade them for the world. :)

Good points about the stolen wallet.  Fortunately I never have had it happen to me but I rarely have more than $20 in my wallet so I guess that wouldn't bother me as much as losing other things (like Driver's license, credit cards, ATM card, etc.).

I just have always thought that merchants would look down on me for charging something that was a low price.  Times are changing I guess and I shouldn't worry about what other people think so much!

I work PT at Cracker Barrel as a cashier and I see people with CC and Debit Cards for purchases less than a $1 often. It doesn't bother me

We use our debit card for pretty much everything as neither of us hardly ever carry cash. If we have cash it was because we took it out for a specific purpose. Like if we're on vacation we bring it for tip money or before we got our Sun Pass we needed cash/change for the tolls on some of the highways here. Other than that we pretty much always use our debit card, and I keep track of all of our spending in our checking account and it's really not that bad to keep track even for the smaller purchases. Unless we were down to our last few dollars, I don't see the small purchases on debit cards as even mattering that much.

We use our credit card for just about everything. It's linked to a checking account, which is where we put H's cash from tutoring. We pay it off every month.

We have a larger checking account that's in our hometown that we pay bills out of. Rent, utilities, internet, cell phone.

At my alma mater (where FI is still a student) they actually have VENDING MACHINES that accept a card.  You heard me.  You can use a card to buy a 20 oz. Pepsi.  I would have gone thirsty often without it, lol.

I use my debit card for everything, but almost never use my credit card, unless it's an emergency or a big purchase. I don't carry cash much because I have direct deposit and never get around to going to the bank or ATM to get cash out. Back before I had direct deposit, years ago, I would get some of my paycheck in cash and put the rest in my bank account. But like I said, now it's all debit card.

I found it hard to vote, since I don't usually buy things that are less than $10.  When I buy coffee I load up my student card with $50 or $100 and use it for a couple of months.  Almost everywhere else I spend debit or credit and that is because I like to keep track of where all my money goes - if cash comes in and goes out I don't know what I spent it on.

I do usually carry $20 for if I need cash for something, and will pay cash usually if it's <$5.

I have never balanced a cheque book (although I probably should have in the past).  I now use online software - mint.com and all my banking stuff is on there.  It automatically categorizes the places I buy stuff (I can correct it if it's wrong or whatever) and tells me how much I spend a month in each category and sends me an email if I've gone over budget in a certain category.  If I owe someone money I write them a cheque so there is a paper trail and it goes through my software.  I find it extremely useful.

I use credit card wherever possible to rack up points, and I pay it off every month.

At small independent stores I pay cash whenever possible because I know they pay big fees for credit card purchases.  But at the chain stores - don't care, they make too much money off of me anyways.

I almost never have more than $5 in cash on me. So yeah, I charge smaller amounts. But then, I almost never spend any money to start with. ;)

I don't use my credit card. It's actually FI's that he added me to to help me build some credit with him. Well, I only put things on it that I can turn right around and pay off. We don't pay interest because we never make minimum payments. We charge it then call and pay it off the next day or at the end of the period when the bill is due.
However, I do use my debit card which deducts the money from my account immediately.
