Cost of Officiant in CO

Ours is asking $250 and he said that's the going rate in CO.  It seems a little steep to me.
If you don't mind saying, how much are you paying for your officiant?  Is $250 about right?
Thanks!

Mine is $150.  This is really a side gig for her, that might be why she's less.

just a quick note - in colorado, you don't have to have an officiant marry you. so, to save costs and also personalize the ceremony even more, we asked my uncle to perform the ceremony. He ended up going online and getting ordained (he said for more credibility) but really anyone can perform the ceremony...just a thought, if you havent already considered it!

ditto cscarro...in the state of CO you can have anyone perform your ceremony.  We had a family friend (who just happened to be an AF chaplain) officiate our ceremony.  Its cheaper! Do you have a close friend or a family member who could do it for you?
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!

Here's what the recorder's office says about the ceremony.  I have checked several counties in CO and the colorado.gov website and they all generally say this:

The marriage ceremony may be performed by

    • a judge
    • a retired judge
    • a magistrate
    • any public official authorized to perform marriages
    • any person recognized as authorized to perform marriages by
      • any religious denomination
      • any Indian nation
      • any Indian tribe
    • the people getting married

Note: Friends or relatives may only perform the ceremony if they are in the list above.

Yeah, but you just have the people getting married sign the license, not the friend who officiated.

We're paid our pastor $300.  This includes the 3 meetings/counselling sessions we had with him, the rehearsal, and the ceremony.  I thought the price was ok.  HTH

We want to get married by a pastor & have a religious ceremony.  Our pastor wasn't available on our day but he recommended this other guy.  We were just a little shocked at the $250!  We'll have to ask about it when we meet with him again, it doesn't seem to be the norm!

    Thanks!

We are using my best friend's brother.  We are not at all in the least bit religious, so having someone who is religious would be very awkward for us.  My best friend's brother got ordained in 2007 to perform his sister's wedding and he will be renewing or re-doing(?) the ordaining so that he can do our ceremony.  We are paying for his tux/suit rental and will be giving him either a $50 GC or $50 cash.  I had looked into other Colorado officiants, but the price they were asking seemd ridiculous to me espeically in a state where there services are not REQUIRED, but that's just me!

We are also going with a friend who is getting himself ordained. However,  pastors can get very expensive, even in CO.  I have heard of people paying way more that $250 b/c they have to pay for pre marraige counseling and what not....what gets inlcuded in the $250.
You might want to check into other officiant sites just to see whats out there.
