Chuppah rental vs. purchase

Hi ladies!

(I've posted on a few other boards so I could get the best range of advice, but I unintentionally forgot to post here, my local board!)

FH and I need a recommendation for a chuppah rental in the area. We are getting married in Spencer, MA (Zukas) 10-14-11. Simple, ivory flowing fabric, maybe some non-floral decor like branches, leaves...that is what we are looking for.

I found one on Etsy that fits our style for $160, but am not sure I want to purchase one. I have one recommendation from fellow Boston knottie and am in the works of getting a quote.

Please send along any suggestions! I'd appreciate it :)

I don't have any suggestions, but I'd be interested to know too! I'm getting married in June and we haven't started to look into that yet.

In terms of rentals, the only one I know of is Kelly the Bridesmaid.

If you buy one, you can always resell it afterwards to another Knottie, but it might take some time. I know that other married ladies have tried to sell their ceremony set-ups and sometimes it takes a while (i.e. a few months). If you have enough storage space where having it hang around for a few months wouldn't be an issue, then maybe buying would be a good idea.

another idea would be your florist --- check to see if s/he may have one you can rent at a discounted rate...or even construct one for you at a cheaper cost than having it made and shipped on etsy

Well the first florist we are meeting with next week already told me her costs, upwards of $250 to just rent. I am waiting on a quote from another florist that was recommended by a knottie on this board, she was rented one for $100 so I am hoping to go with that. If not, seems like the $160 on Etsy would be the better option.

After I posted, I realized that you probably already went the florist route if you are looking at buying...sorry not very helpful :)

But that's ridiculous --- a total wedding mark up! You are better off buying one and selling post-wedding, at least you'll get some of your money back and be helping another bride out as well...but like JBs said, it can take awhile to re-sell :) GL!
