DIY Floral

Is anyone planning on doing your own floral centerpieces?  If so, where are you going to get your flowers??  There was a reg on here who did all their own florals, right?  Anybody know who that was?

Thanks!

Re: DIY Floral

  • I think you're talking about ysl1983

This is her link to her DIY florals

She did not do her own bouquets or boutonnieres.

I am doing my own flowers, but only 1 hydrangea per mason jar, which accent a lantern on top of a mirror, and are surrounded by votives

Bouquets, boutonnieres and placecard centerpiece are going to be done professionally.

I am not having any flowers at the church.

  • Thanks blue!  That's very, very helpful!

I am the same, I want relatively simple centerpieces, mostly candles and a stem or two of flowers, so it seems mind-boggling to be spending thousands for it.  But I don't want to overwhelm myself and I am definitely not going to be doing bouquets (although the groomsmen are in pocket silks, so I only need a boutonniere for the FI).  Where are you going to get your hydrangeas from?  I actually was hoping for stemmed calla lilies but that is all I want...do you think they would be too difficult to handle myself?

    Hmm....

    The centerpieces are such:

Borrby lantern (smaller version) from Ikea
    3x4 pillar candle from candles4less
    12in mirror from saveoncrafts
8-10 votives from quickcandles covered in vellum ... where ever it's cheapest
1 hydrangea from wholefoods (actually cheaper than coscto) in 1 wide-mouth pint mason jar from truevalue x2 (so they are flanking the borrby lantern).

I don't think 1 or 2 stemmed calla lilies would be that difficult.. It took me like 1-2 minute tops to cut the hydrangeas...

Look on saveoncrafts for bottles/vases... or I saw at a local restaurant that they put 1-2 stemmed flowers in a glass evian bottle (you could remove the label...) I'm not sure how expensive a case of evian water is... but it might be cheaper than buying individual bud vases.

I looked at Trader Joes, WholeFoods, Costco, fiftyflowers... I decided to go with wholefoods (eventhough trader joes was cheaper) because wholefood has more consistent flower head sizes...and it's closer to my house (like walking distance).
