Finally

Re: Finally

  • edited December 2011
Just FYI, that's A LOT of personal information to be spreading freely on the internet. Someone can easily find out your first and last name, venues, date and time (could easily crash it, or sadly sometimes call vendors pretending to be on your behalf and mess with things, etc.). Most people wouldn't take advantage of knowing this kind of stuff, but it only takes a creeper or two to do some real damage.

It was her wedding website that had her full name and the date/time of ceremony/reception.

LOL, you didn't miss anything... Finally worked on my wedding site for my guest, and just posted what i had so far. I did not get around to adding the password protection yet but just wanted to share with you ladies.... It actually did not have MY FULL NAME OR FIANCE'S FULL NAME but did have all other wedding related information. I just wanted to share with you all, as i stated in the post that i was still working on the site...

I will repost after i put the protection on

    Thanks

Sorry for some reason I thought it had your name on it.  I did look at it though and it was very nice.  You did a great job.

One more thing, to think about when you put the protection on. Wou didn't have your FI's full name, but you had his brother's full name, who probably shares his last name. Plus, registries are usually linked to full names, so it wouldn't be that hard to find out your full names. But then again, I'm internet paranoid, so...

    I just have to say...

You girls go completely overboard on 'warning' each other of the crazies out in internet land.  Like having a first and last name on a website automatically means a perverted stalker will hunt you down.  Or having your screen name be your email address automatically cause your inbox to be filled with spam in minutes.  I get trying to be safe on the internet, but half the time I wonder if you all sit around and wait for someone to slip up so you can put your 2 cents in!  It's a bit absurd

Shanno: I'm not sure why it bothers you so much. Paranoid? Maybe. Paranoid with good reason? Possibly, but definitely well-meaning.

I rather be better safe than sorry. We do put pics here but pics are just that, pics.

Flawless- I am sure whatever you did on your site was fabulous, just like you! :P

I tend to be more in the whatever mode when it comes to this stuff.. Honestly, if someone really wanted to figure out who someone was and where they lived, they would.  Wedding website or not.

My mom always says "shred anything with your name on it before your throw it out" .. and I say "uh, mom - as long as I'm not giving my SS# out in the trash, who cares if criminals know my NAME (she goes as far as blacking out magazine subscription labels) - honestly.. if someone wants to know my full name, they can look up my address in the public records and see who owns the house.  And considering in my moms hypothetical scenario they're at my curb apparently stealing my trash, I would assume they DO know my address!   ;P

I have a friend who is homeland security and he says shredding means nothing.  If you really want to destroy stuff, burn it - they have ways to put shredded materials back together.

I prefer my method of "poor man's shredding".  I tear everything up, put in in a trash bag, and douse it all with ketchup.  Mix it around for good measure.  Someone would REALLY want to steal my info to put up with all that.

Cara - I LOVE that! and it would be a good use of ketchup in my house (I hate the stuff but DH loves it on everything!)

    Cara, that's great.
Sometimes if I want something destroyed, I'll wet it under the sink to smear it up and then tear it into tiny pieces.  Or I'll shred it and discard it in different trash cans in my house so it's not all together.  i don't like having my name and address together since people walk up and down my street and it's very easy to go through trash around here, especiall if it's put out the night before. This said, people know your face from the neighborhood and even know where you live.  I don't like the idea of a stranger knowing my name cause I have this strange fear of a creeper calling my name on the street and me being stupid thinking I know them. I know it sounds dumb but I feel like it very well could happen. I don't consider myself paranoid, just cautious...well, maybe a little paranoid "with good reason".
