[QUOTE]It probably depends on how complex of arrangements you want and what type of flowers. It's not just about the cost of the flowers, you have to think about the time you'll spend doing it as well as the additional materials you'll need to buy.

  • Yeh i am looking into taking a DIY flower class to kind of see what I would want and how much it is going to cost...I just wanted to see if anyone had done it themselves and saved $$$
    Thank you
  • ok thank you! you can tell that i am new to this stuff :)
  • Also try quoting local grocery stores. A lot of girls on our local boards did this.
  • I DIY'd my flowers back when we got married. Our wedding day was the weekend after Valentines day so we were actually able to get all of our flowers from Krogers for REALLY cheap, plus my MIL sweettalked the florist dude at the grocery store we were at.

They were very simply but beautiful bouquets. Total cost was about $40-50
    5 bouquets
12 little flowers for bud vases on the centerpieces
    10 bouts
    6 corsages

You can also check Etsy for different types of flowers or even craigslist for pre-made bouquets (silk flowers) that are being re-sold.

Very true! I know some people who went through Whole Foods and got beautiful flowers at a great price.

Overall, I'm going to say it's cheaper to do it yourself IF you're keeping it simple and you pretty much know what you're doing. If it's going to take you hours upon hours to do complicated centerpieces, well, you have to decide if you have the time and patience for that. If you want a simple hand-tied bouquet and aren't having ten bridesmaids, DIY is most likely the cheapest option.

Ideas on cutting costs on flowers either way (got many of these ideas from my florist):
    - Use mostly filler flowers (babies breath, lavender, Queen Anne's lace, carnations) and maybe one or two big blooms
    - Have bridesmaids carry a single stem such as a calla lily or sunflower, OR have them carry a simple bouquet of baby's breath (I personally think it looks very elegant and understated)
    - The fewer different types of flowers, the cheaper overall. If you love roses, do all roses instead of roses, ranunculus, peonies, and orchids.

    GL!

  • I know people who have been quoted $2,000+ for bouquets and centerpieces.  I bought artificial calla lilies at Save on Crafts and made my own bouquets for under $150.  We are not using flowers for our centerpieces.
