Stacked Books Centerpieces

So far, we've decided to have two different types of centerpieces. On half of the tables, we are having 12" black lanterns with red or orange votives inside with fake fall leaves surrounding it and scattered on the white tables. On the other half of the tables, I wanted something with books. My mom is a librarian at a school so she has been collecting old tattered hardcovered books that are outdated and we're plannning on spray painting the pages (the part you can see without opening the book) a bronzish gold and then painting the outside and binding fall colors to go with the whole wedding theme. I want to keep the rustic fall theme look going, so I'm trying to figure out what else to add with the books...I want to add candles but I'm not really sure. Has anyone done something like this or knows someone who's done something similar?

That sounds like a fun idea :-)

I know there are how-to guides when it comes to making side tables w/stacks of books as the legs and lamps with the same idea. Maybe improvise from one of those?

Love this idea. If we could have pulled it all together, we probably would have used books as well.  What kind of paint are you using out of curiosity?

Could you just do something really simple on top? Like a small globe vase with a few floating flowers?

Michaels currently has balls made out of sticks on sale. You could use those as is or spray paint or weave the leaves in them.

I would browse the Hobby Lobby's, Michaels and other crafts store and see what they have for fall decor. All is on sale right now so its a perfect time to start collecting and seeing what is out there.

I like the idea! I would keep it relatively simple. Not sure I would put a vase or anything on top of the books, even. Maybe just some votives dabbled around the center of the table to give them a nice gleam.

Cute idea!  Just make absolutely sure the books aren't worth a lot of money, being out of print and old.  It'd be a shame to wreck something worth hundreds of dollars and not know it.

I was just looking at a blog I read here and there and one of the posts includes some flowers made from book pages (see below).  It made me think of your centerpiece question.  Not sure if that would interest you, but it might be a cute way to incorporate the book theme through the reception decor.  Perhaps using the same bronze gold you used for the books on the cut edges...

Thanks so much ladies! I love the flowers idea - I've got awhile to go but would really like to get as much done. Thanks again :):) I can't wait to start :)
