Second Weddings

Second Wedding for me, first for my fiance!

My wedding is in a month, and I need to get this out before I explode.  My fiance and I have been planning this beautiful wedding!  This is his first, so we are having a nice sized wedding.  My first wedding was rather small and intiment (on the beach), so not many of my family members attended.  My divorce was short and sweet after a few years of misery.  I've been divorced for allmost 2 years and seperated for a little loonger.

At first I wasn't 100% excited about the wedding, because it was my second and it seemed like no one knew I was divorced.  This hurt as well as people making a big deal of "oh it's her second so she won't be wearing white, or a veil, etc..  I want to be excited bc my finace is the best thing that has come into my life!  I am not someone who is big into attention, especially since this is my second.  Why am I not more excited?  Should I wear a veil?

Huh?  I am not sure what your question is.  (And your opening statement that you had to get it out before you explode is exactly how the whole post sounds.)

Maybe you could articulate your question a bit clearer, if you are expecting any answers.   Thanks.  ~Donna

You can wear a veil if you want, I would just avoid the blusher. (the part that goes over your face). The blusher is usually reserved for first-time brides.

Other than that, don't worry what anyone else thinks. You and your fiancee are doing what makes the two of you happy and, honestly, the stigma of being a second-time bride is not nearly as bad as it was even 30 years ago.

ETA: The blusher thing I'm still on the fence about. I see the point but I also feel like women should be able to dress however makes them happy on their wedding day. I could see it being more of a no-no if it's a woman's 12th marriage or something, but a second? I dunno. Also, does that include birdcage veils? Is that technically a blusher? So many questions, still.

Wear a veil, wear a white dress, dance down the aisle if you want, celebrate that you found the right person this time and if you know people who will look down their noses.... don't invite them.

Well this is my 3rd time down the aisle and I am wearing an Ivory ball gown a tiara and a veil. Its what I want and I can't freakin wait. If its what you want do it! Who cares what anyone else thinks enjoy the moment with you and he.  This is your day not everyone elses!!

Hear Hear to both geordie and Pamila!!!!

This is your day (and his, of course).  As long as you two are happy, the other people in your life should be happy for you.

I'm about to marry a great guy and I celebrate every day that I am old enough and know what I want enough to make the event that will be meaningful and fun to me/us.

Know that you can't please everyone all the time so concentrate on the people who are positive, supportive and helpful and tell the others - nicely - to get on the bandwagon or get out of the way.  It's more fun on the bandwagon anyway.

This is also my second wedding and first for my fiance.  I understand where you are coming from!  I also wondered about the Ivory and white thing for a short period of time..but decided i LOVE the contrast of white with a splash of garnet color....if im going to go non-traditional, why not go all the way right?!  :)   not sure about a veil yet, more than likely no veil...just as a personal choice for me.  I like the flowers throghout the hair or a ring of flowers etc...

Good luck in love and life!

Let me tell  you this is going to be my 2nd wedding his first. We met 20 met years ago, We are both 38 I have three teenagers he has one. We reconnect I am not divroced and I am so very happy. I love this man,  there is still a lot of stigma about what to wear and not to wear. I am very undecided and dont know what to do.
He wants it to be about us and doesnt care about what other people say. We waited all this time and he wants me to be happy. I dont want to wear white, he says I was cheated the first time.  I should do what I want.  So I am just as confused.
