wonderland forest

so heres what i was wondering...

our reception theme is "wonderland forest". sandblasted manzatia (sp) trees in the lage teacup planters. escort bottles that say drink me, cookies that say eat me FH is wearing a top hat. the groomscake is going to be the chesire cat or something to do with the queen. our colors are kelly green and this jewl tone purple, and black and white obviously. the bridesmaids are wearing black dresses with the jewel tone purple sash and my question is...to tie in the wonderland theme how awkward/dumb would it look to put the flower girl in a alice type dress/costume even though the colors wont match and i was thinking about putting the ring bearer in a gray type suit like the mad hater. i dont know if thats too corny or too far down the "cartoon" line. everything else is really elegant and not so...cartoony but i was kinda thinking about doing something cute for the flower girl and ring bearer just to have some fun and tie the wedding party to the theme a little better than the fh's top hat. what do you think?...sorry its so long winded :)

Re: wonderland forest

  • Personally, I think it might take the Alice theme a little too far. The touches you have sound lovely and subtle.

I think putting the FG and RB in a whimsical dress and suit that aren't specifically Alice themed would be adorable.

    this.
  • don't do it... it would go to from wedding to 10 year old's birthday party
  • You're overdoing it.  A little theme goes a very long way.  I'd keep the Alice in Wonderland touches to a minimum, lest it start to appear as a child's birthday party.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • see ive gotten such mixed responses. maybe if i put the fg in a alice shaped dress in the bm color (the purple) with the white apron looking thing over top. i dont know im trying to find a way to tie the ceremony and reception together..something small.
  • I don't think you got such mixed responses at all~at least not here.  Almost universally here, the people who replied said that it was probably a little too much.

My niece had a couple of very subtle references to her love of Alice in Wonderland.  Actually, aside from the Alice tattoo on her back shoulder, the only other thing was a topsy-turvy cake that was very "Alice".

It was plenty.  Unless you're talking about advice from other sources than here, I'd recommend that you go back and re-read these.  Virtually everyone said that "less is more" and not to turn your reception into a cartoon or a Tim Burton movie.

  • no not just from here lol. like the iphone app knot board everyone thought it was a great idea. my mom likes it but only if we do our wedding colors in the alice shaped dress. i guess it would be a better idea if our colors included the alice blue. thanks ladies i have some thinking and more planning to do
