Intro and a venue question

Hi! I was an active member on this board years ago when I was planning my first wedding and now 3 years post divorce and a new fiance, I am back :)

My first go 'round I did the whole formal wedding thing, but this time I am planning on something much more casual. My FI and I just recently figured out our guest list and we are looking in the neighborhood of 45 adults, 4 teens and 8 kids. We are thinking afternoon reception, 4 hours max, somewhere casual. I would love to do a venue that would do the catering and alcohol, but $100/head is just way out of our budget right now. So, I'm either looking for a venue that we can rent and bring in our own stuff or maybe a smaller restaurant that would be less expensive. We are looking in PA in either Delaware, Chester or Montgomery Counties. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Try Opentable.com  and look for restaurants that accommodate larger groups.

  • Here are a few suggestions that I can think of:

I went to Chima (brazilian steakhouse on JFK Blvd) for a reception before. They have this backroom that can probably hold 80-100 people or so. I'm not sure how much they charge you pp though.

A coworker of mine also did a small reception a few years ago at the Hibachi on Penn's Landing. I believe, she only had like 50 guests in their ballroom and loved it. I didn't go, so not sure, how it turned out.

I had my engagement party (50 people) at Positano Coast in old City two years ago. Seated dinner. They seated us in the back area of the restaurant, great window view, so we were away from the regular guests. Everyone loved it. Good luck with your planning!
