Have you ever worn...

A natural form victorian gown? I am thinking of getting one designed for my wedding but don't want to look like a keg :)

The late 1870s represent my favourite era of victorian fashion.  I wouldn't worry at all about looking like a keg!!

Just find a GOOD seamstress who understands the tight, vertical slim lines in the silhoette of this, but make sure you can still move!  put a cute dropped ribbon sash below your bum, lots of trimmings and a cute train, and you'll be the furthest thing from a keg.

Oh my, and please post pictures if you do get one designed!!!!

I wonder, is there a way for you to try on a similar dress to see how you like the shape on your body?  Like, could you find a seamstress that specializes in victorian dresses, and try on something with a similar cut first?

If you're interested, I can also point you in the direction of my favourite designer (definitely expensive though) Maria Lluisa Rabell.  You can maybe get some ideas/inspiration from her bridal line.  She incorporates some pretty gorgeous vintage silhouettes and features into her gowns.  They all make me crazy.  Here's a preview.

This could potentially be a designer whos dresses you could use to test out how different silhoettes look on your body before having one made for yourself.

  • Thanks! I will see if I can find some of her items in the area. The seamstress I found to do the project is far away, so I doubt at this point that I will go through with it. I found a local one but she wasn't interested in the project. I am going to go try some regular bridal stuff on later this month and then go from there.

Don't feel bad if you fall in love with a regular contemporary dress, either.  You can still make it look vintage-chic.  It's all in the accessories!  Best of luck dress hunting.
