Anyone get married @ Chelsea Piers Sunset Terrace?

Hey everyone, I just stumbled upon this website and I've been addicted for the past few days just non-stop absorbing as much information as I possibly can. I've been engaged a year and half already and have finally decided to start planning my wedding.  I think I have managed to find a possible good venue @ the Sunset Terrace in Chelsea Piers.  I've tried to find as much pictures as I can online w/no avail but I have an appointment to go see it tomorrow afternoon.  Anyway, for the ladies that have gotten married there, how is it?  How was the catering food, b/c they emailed me the menu and I am a little skeptical about it. Who did you deal with?  Are the prices negotiable?  Any info will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

P.S. Im interested in April 2011, Saturday or Sunday evening, probably 75 guests.

Best regards

Patricia

I would definitely go and see it in person.  Guests would have to enter and walk through the Sky Rink, and cocktail hour is held literally next to the skating rink with just a curtain to close off the view of the hockey leagues that play there during your event (the banquet manager is very honest about everything and discloses what the pros/cons are.)  Also, I did feel that the room where cocktail hour is held in smelled a bit muggy/stale and was a bit on the smaller side.

The room itself (where ceremony + dinner/dancing) would happen is simple, has an amazing view, gorgeous built in bar, and great for your sized group.  Unfortunately, I know nothing about their exclusive caterer but their packages/pricing are QUITE reasonable!

I GOT MARRIED THERE!!!  My guests LOVED it.  If your guests are tired of going to catering halls and they want a great view and a relaxing type of place - this is it.

PROS - great space for an intimate affair.  They take care of you, very attentive.  I did not worry about much!  Very thorough group.  Your friends and family will enjoy the opportunity to move from indoor to outdoor and watch the ships sail passed you. Food was by Jason's Catering - our catering manager was EXCEPTIONAL!  The food was wonderful our guests are still talking about the mashed potatoes!

CONS - It's EXPENSIVE! Don't let that under $100 pp fool you! That's more like a starting point.  Everything is separate, you pay for the room(s) and the drinks with CP and then you pay for the food with Jason's Catering.  CP does not negotiate, it's a landmark and they don't have seasonal pricing.  Guests have to pay for parking its about $40.  It is next to the rink.  But, that was a pro for us.  It was 100 degrees -- the ice rink gave a great cooling off during the cocktail hour.  There is draping so you don't notice it.  But, you will walk passed it to get to the rooms.   And it can get windy.  We got married in July so breezes were great for us since we had all the doors open.

People loved our wedding so much, it was suggested that we all go back there for our anniversary and we are considering it!

And remember they have two other (more pricer) venues. The Lighthouse and Pier 60.  We did not go there because I only have 55 guests.

I got married there in June!!!!  I can't even put into words how fabulous it was!!!  Everything was perfect and ran so smoothly and it had much to do with our coordinator Lauren from the pier, she was awesome!!!

If you want a loft type space that isn't your typical catering hall atomosphere, yet also want something out of the box and very "NYC" it's for you!  You do have to walk by the ice rink which is uncoventional but who cares, no one even thinks about it after you walk past it!  The club room where our cocktail hour was did need some help however our florist was a godsend and had drapery and candles and so many flowers in there and totally transformed that space for us.  It was pretty hot the day we got married and there is no AC on the Terrace..I'd be lying if I didn't say it wasn't hot, but it was not unbearable because of the breeze off the river.  The park outside the pier is also an excellent location for group photos and honestly that view at sunset can not be beat!

I agree with the PP, it is more than $100 per person but I still think its priced extremely resonably for NYC! They don't really negoitiate on pricing (the pier that is) however Jason's Catering you can play around with by altering your courses and choosing less expensive entrees to try and keep the cost down.  Overall, they were resonable as well and I still think a great value for the city.

Hey Kitcat!  How long did it take to get to the park?  We skipped going there because we figured we wouldn't have time.

Mzplatinum, I dealt with Linda Bookbinder @ CP and Kathy Fallon at Jason's.  I LOVE KATHY, LOVE HER!!!  Why?  Because she really helped me with my ENTIRE wedding. I feel like she became a great friend -- we still keep in touch!  Her guidance helped me to learn to negotiate with other vendors.  She really worked with my budget.  We became such good buddies, she was late to an event just so she could watch me get married!

They are just a THOROUGH group.  For an April wedding, you won't need A/C - you will have a great time!!!

If you are worried about pricing and you really want that space, sign your agreement for the SHORTEST amount of time and do BEER, WINE & SODA -- they will throw in a signature drink (just ask).  I regret not doing that, much to my surprise my guests were not big drinkers and I could have saved some money.
