"here comes the bride" - ring bearer?

Is anyone having a little boy in your wedding holding a "here comes the bride" sign before you walk down the aisle?

I am, however he is not holding the rings. My question is, do you still call him the "ring bearer"?

Is there another name for him?

TIA

Re: "here comes the bride" - ring bearer?

  • I'm sure that the name originated from the little boy carrying the rings, however not all of them do that and still get the title. Same goes for the flower girl who doesn't carry flowers.

My son will be carrying a ring nest in the church but I had originally planned on him carrying a flag that I made (but the church won't allow it). Instead he'll carry the flag into the reception as we enter.

I have 3 boys in the family and they are in the wedding. One will be the ring barer and the other two we titled banner bearers. I had no idea what else to call them for the website.

WAIT. WAIT. WAIT. I actually know this. He would be called a "Herald" instead of a "Ring Bearer". That's the word for the little boys that carry the signs.

Here's another (just to put it out there):
we have 2 boys in the families (my nephew and his nephew) and we wanted to include them both in the wedding. his nephew is going to be the ring bearer and my nephew is going to be the "bell ringer" he will have a small crystal bell he will ring before the bride (me) comes down the aisle, as if he is announcing "the bride is coming, the bride is coming"
