guest book question

How do you all feel about the necessity of a guest book?

I made a small paperback photo guest book on shutterfly. I was going to put it out at the reception for people to look at the photos and sign or write a message if they wish (it's not an official-looking, sign here on the dotted line, kind of book). I'm just not sure if I also need an official guest book for people to sign when people walk into the ceremony.

P.S. it's an outdoor ceremony if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

I had an outdoor ceremony, and did not have an official guest book there.  I made a guest book on Shutterfly with our engagement pictures, and people signed it at our reception.  It worked out great!

I'm glad someone asked this because I was thinking about this today. I am having an outdoor ceremony too (the ceremony and reception are at the same location) Didnt know where I should put it, I dont want the traditional guest book, still trying to come up with something. what is shutterfly?

I am having an outdoor ceremony that is at the same location as the reception.  We are doing "wedding wishes" which is just a small card that the guests write whatever they want on and then put into a container.  We will then put them into our wedding album.

Shutterfly is a photo storage website, and you can make prints, cards, stationery, calendars, books, etc. with the photos. I made one of their 8x8 hardcover books featuring engagement picturesand used it as my guest book.

We just bought the traditional guest book and pen. I think only about 30% of our guests signed it. I was actually quite sad about it even though there is nothing I can do.

I like your idea. I say go for it. It is worth a try. I have seen the platters and frames become popular as well.

We are doing a photo guest book and are using www.adoramapix.com I found them through a post on this board a couple of months ago.  IMO they are far better quality than Snapfish or Shutterfly and are very close to the same price. Check them out. Good luck! HTH!

Our photographer includes an option for either a photobook of our engagement photos or a single engagement photo with a large matte for the guests to sign.  I think we are going with the single photo frame so that we can hang it up and actually enjoy it later.

We asked our photographer to make an 8x8 guest book with our engagement photos and incorporate some artwork from our invites and other wedding paper. There weren't any dotted lines, but we made sure there was plenty of space for people to write in. We didn't take it to the ceremony but instead had it at our reception at a table near the entrance. Most of our guests looked at it but not all signed it. While although we didn't get signatures from every guest, the ones closest to us did sign it and that worked out better, IMO.
