When to tip photographer?

Hi there,

Quick question- FI and I were discussing when to tip our photographers. They are a couple who own their own business and have already been fully paid so do we 1. write a thank you and tip on the wedding night or  2. can we write the thank you after the wedding and send the tip in the mail with the thank you?

    we had my hubbys best man give everyone an evelope that night. its never required to tip but all of our vendors were amazing so we tipped them even though they owned their business. 

    i dont believe in that rule

    You don't have to tip them but if you want to it's perfectly acceptable to mail a thank you note and a tip.  Personally, I feel like you'll know what you want to tip them more after the wedding when you see what an amazing job they do instead of just guessing ahead of time.

    I know they are expensive but they do wonderful work and I have had so many friends tell me that they regret/dislike their wedding pics!   I want my photographers to know that I really appreciate them and really it is their work that I will have for the rest of my life.

    This.  Tip them.  They did you a service whether or not they own their business.  I would tip them that night.

    I don't think it matters.  I sent mine afterwards for a couple reasons.  I could deciede what I wanted to tip them based on their service also so I could write them a heart felt note for making the day special.

    All the responses regarding tipping on the etiquette boards state that you do NOT have to tip them if it is their own business.
    If you choose to tip, it is up to you. :)
