Collar bone pain

So I've noticed the last few weeks (or maybe even longer) that, particularly at night, the area around my right collar bone has been sore. I don't think it's the actual bone, but a throbbing pain right around it, maybe into my neck as well.

Could this be from working out? Like, if I was doing crunches improperly or something? It's never outright sore, like my legs or arms get, just the slight throbbing. I've been doing JM Ripped in 30, if that tells you anything.

Anyone have this problem? It's not really painful, but if I'm doing something wrong in the work out I'd obviously like to correct that.

Re: Collar bone pain

  • Does your arm get numb at all?  Fingers tingle?  It could be a pinched nerve that happened when lifting a weight.... or if you have a good workout and then you sit a computer all day your muscles will get tight..... happens to me all the time!  Just try to remember to roll your shoulders throughout the day... like every hour :)
  • I would say experiencing a little muscle pain is normal but BONE pain would be abnormal to me.  It's hard to say if you are doing something incorrectly because we aren't there with you (obviously).  When you are doing crunches it is incredibly important not to strain because that isn't the correct way of doing them.

To correct your crunch posture make sure that at all times during the crunch you could fit a tennis ball between your chin and neck/chest.  I check to make sure I have this spacing by seeing if my fist can fit in that area, if not, you will get neck area straining.  Try and improve your crunching technique and really focus on using your abdominals to complete the crunch and not your neck/arms.  If this doesn't improve I would go to the doctor and make sure that you didn't do anything serious to the area.

(Another idea is doing the workout in front of a mirror that way you can really make sure that your posture is correct.)
