Backyard party

FI wanted to elope.  I kinda of want something in between.  A small regular ceremony and then a party afterwards..... I want a 30/40 friends & family, a summer night, a big backyard, paper lanterns, music, beer, bocce ball, bbq.   Would this be something to rent a house for? Or are there B&B's who will rent me their whole place?  Other ideas? Our folks places dont have lawns or the room for a large party.  Definitley budget friendly ideas needed.

Thanks!!! Amy

There are definately B&B's that will let you book the whole place, bu they usually require that you fill all the rooms the night of the event.

A house is a good idea too, because this way if you didn't want to take off on a honeymoon right away, you and your FI could have a little R&R for a few days after your wedding.

I think that another big thing to consider in your decision is if you want a BBQ that is catered or home cooked, because some B&B's won't allow outside food and beverage. Just something to keep in mind.

I have also seen a lot of inspiration on the knot and on wedding chicks for backyard weddings and there are some really great things you can do with it!

    Good Luck with planning!

Not sure about your location but...the shawnee peak house in bridgton, ME. is a really good deal.  It has a nice big backyard and sleeps a lot of people. It is kinda rustic inside but it sounds like you you care more about the big yard.

I looked for a house for the wedding at one point and this was the house that slept the most people and wasn't crazy priced.  Although, there are some really nice ones you can rent in maine if you have the money.

I'm getting married at Shawnee Peak next weekend! We are doing our rehearsal BBQ at the Shawnee Peak House, and us and all the bridal party are sleeping there both Friday and Saturday night. Definitely rustic, but it has a nice big deck, a grill and a fire pit. You can also access the lake nearby if people want to go swimming or canoeing.

I'll let you know how it goes next weekend :)

Renting a whole B&B could be expensive, I think. But there may be some out there that are cost-effective.
