Belated honeymoon?

Hey Ladies! (Especially those of you who are already married)

Have any of y'all taken a belated honeymoon? Long story short, my fiance's parents are giving us their frequent flyer miles so we can take a trip to Europe for our honeymoon. We don't have enough miles to completely cover it but if we wait a month, it will be "off season" and we can completely cover both of our flights.

So what do you ladies think? Is it worth saving a thousand dollars? I think it is, but I would love to hear from you ladies...especially people who may have taken a late honeymoon!

Re: Belated honeymoon?

  • It really just depends.  H and I took a "mini-moon" to Fredericksburg to save money and because we got married right in the middle of the fall semester (and I'm a teacher) with the intention of going on a f'real honeymoon in the summer when we both had more time.

We ended up buying a house instead.  I think we'll probably still go on a "honeymoon"-type trip eventually, but it might be a few years.

That said, if you have a good reason to wait and a concrete plan for later on down the road, I say go for it.  There's no hard and fast rule that says you HAVE to go on your honeymoon right away!  And it's definitely worth saving all that money!

  • We waited a month to take ours (when H had Spring Break.) Gave me time to unwind after the wedding. We didn't do it for money reasons though, but there's nothing wrong with you waiting, especially if it's going to be that significant in savings.

  • See, that's what I think too. And the FI agrees, he just does NOT want to ask his boss to change his vacation (since it's already been approved). That being said, as much as that conversation may suck, it would be worth it.

    Congrats on getting a house!!!
  • I definitely say to wait and go when you can save money!
  • I agree. I think it's a good idea to wait and save money on your flight.

  • We went 6 months later because we got a better deal in the Caribbean and we had more vacation time. Still felt very much like a honeymoon. :
