Ketubah Help Needed

Hi Ladies,

I hope you all had a nice day today!  I am planning to reach out to mpartworks, but thought I'd ask here as well.  I have a problem with our ketubah.  As I've mentioned before, my cousin is a cantor and was officiating our wedding.  We were having her co-officiate with my parents' rabbi.  Due to the time contraints, the plan was to have my cousin do our ketubah signing, then start the ceremony once the rabbi arrives.

Due to sad and unfortunate circumstances, my cousin is no longer able to officiate our wedding.  My question is....our beautiful ketubah says "Cantor" for the officiants line.  Our rabbi is hard to reach right now, understandably so, due to the holidays.  I will reach out to mpartworks. But what do you think of the rabbi signing where it says Cantor?  Is that an issue?  Can he just write "rabbi" next to his signature?  Do you think I need to get a new ketubah?  Our wedding is 3 weeks away.  We got our ketubah a few months ago, so we are past the time limit for any changes without fees.

I appreciate your responses and ideas.  Thanks!

the only two people who need to sign your ketubah are the two witnesses, the rabbi / officiant does not need to sign it, so this shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you! Should we keep that line blank?

As a follow up, I LOVE Mpartworks.  They have been so easy to work with and so responsive and helpful.

I wouldn't keep it blank.  I think Rachie was pointing out that having the Rabbi/Cantor line be perfect has no bearing on the legality of your marriage.  Halachically, you need 2 witnesses and that's it.  Any additional lines are just extra, so if it says "cantor" even though it's technically a rabbi, that's fine.

Can mpartworks change it at this point, or do you already have your ketubah?  If they are able to make a last second change right before shipping it, then give it a try.  If you already have the ketubah, don't worry about getting a brand new one. Your rabbi can write "Rabbi so-and-so" on the cantor line.  Don't spend a lot of money and grief fixing it.

Thanks ARod....we were able to work out with mpartworks to get a reprinted ketubah for a small fee.  I was worried we'd have to buy a new one at the regular price.  They are so quick with the turnaround, I think we'll be fine.  If it were only a week or so until the wedding, or it was a lot more money, we would have left it.  But since we had the opportunity, we decided to change it.  Thanks!

sounds like you solved this problem.

i was going to suggest, that since the legality of the ketubah is not an issue as long as you have the witnesses, perhaps you could ask your cousin/cantor to sign it at a later time? i assume that your rabbi will be signing your secular marriage license, and therefore you could have something from each.

Thanks Lynnie, unfortunately I don't think that will be an option.  But I appreciate it!
