Opening a can of worms?

My FI and I are having a small wedding (about 40 people) that consists of family and close friends. Someone I work with found out that I was engaged and offered their services as an ordained minister "on the cheap." My mom has offered to pay for the minister/officiant, but even so, I know things are tight for her and I don't want to put her out any more money than she has to. Now, I am not inviting anyone from work since the guest list is small. I have had several people from the office already practically invite themselves and I've explained to them how the guest list is family only. Do you think having someone from the office marry us would open up a can of worms and people from work will expect an invite?

  • I don't think so.  There is a huge difference between a guest and an officiant, and I think most rational people would see that difference.

  • Totally agree with PP. I think you're fine. Guestlist is still family/close friends only.
