Parent Gift Ideas...

So I'm basically out of $$ to spend here... and I need to get 3 gifts, one for my dad, one for my mom, and one for FI's parents. I need some thoughtful, but not budget busting ideas. I was going to have FI make something for them (he works well with wood, graphics, anything crafty)... but I think he is burnt on projects... I feel like I've given my dad so many picture frames and personalized glasses over the years that it should be something different... any ideas ladies??? Thanks in advance!

Re: Parent Gift Ideas...

  • I got my mom and dad embroidered handkerchiefs from Etsy. They were only about $35 total for both shipped. For FI's parents, we waited until the last minute, so couldn't have anything personalized. We just bought a frame for his mom from Amazon (2 day shipping! lol) and a father of the bride beer mug for his dad. (Obviously those won't work for your dad haha) I don't know if that all is still too expensive, but they all loved their gifts :)

  • We ordered photobooks of our engagement pictures (made them on shutterfly) and we're going to give them wedding photobooks after the wedding too. We also ordered extras when we got our bridal party gifts so our dads could have pocket watches and our moms could have antique spoon bracelets.

  • We got our parents albums that hold a couple hundred pictures. I printed copies of our engagements and put in the front then we'll get them copies of wedding pics to put in later.  I know this isn't terribly original but our parents love pictures so its perfect for them.

  • ohnoitskaroljo- did you get the spoons engraved? I think both mom's would really love braceletes like that and we have a rustic vintage feel to our wedding so it would be a nice memory. I found some on etsy... just wondering what to engrave, if I went that route... OUR initials, or wedding date? Or the mother's initals?

  • Yeah I got the spoons engraved witheach person's first names. :) They're GORGEOUS. I didn't want to personalize them to match US - I wanted them to be personalized to the recipient. :)

That's the seller I got them from - they even came in little individual boxes :)  I got all spoons from like 1897 - 1908 :D

  • I did engagement photo books as well.  I got a couple of Groupons for Mixbook, so I got a great deal.  Keep an eye out for discounts to Mixbook or Shutterfly and you should be able to get at least 20-30% off, if not more.
  • FI's father is a baseball fan so we are going to get them tickets to a game. I'm thinking about getting FMIL a Nook tablet but I'm waiting on confirmation from FSIL that she would even be interested in it.

  • We got baseball tickets for my dad, too.  His dad is getting some new power tools, perfect for him (practical!).  It's both sets of parent's anniversaries the day of our rehearsal, so we went a little extra special for the moms with anniversary bands.
  • Ok so I think I have solved my problem! I did order the silver spoon bracelets for my mom and Fi's mom with their names engraved! Thanks for sharing that ohnoitskaroljo!

And for my dad I'm going to get him a copy of the movie "Father of the Bride" and possibly a theater poster signed by FI and I for either the same movie, signed by Fi and I... he just built a theater room and is obsessed with it...

  • I bought Jeremy's mom a dress for the wedding so I feel like I probably don't need to get her anything else??

As for my dad we both have a favorite picture together and it is the same one so I am having it restored and put into a double frame then I will have a picture from the day in the other side of the frame. Simple and cheap! :)

Pictures in frames are ALWAYS great gifts!

<div>YAY!!! :D I'm sure they'll LOVE those bracelets - wait until you get them omg they're SO gorgeous. I had to get myself one too lol</div><div>
</div><div>And I think that's a totally cute idea for your dad! Very unique!!!

Know what would be even cooler? Photoshopping your faces into the movie poster lol! (I know how to do that if you have HQ photos that line up with the poster (one of your profile making the kiss face and one of your dad straight on) and want me to try! )</div>
