How much postage for your wedding invitations?

I'm getting our invitations ready to be mailed out in about a month.  How much postage did you end up needing to mail them?  I have a standard pocket fold invitation with the necessary enclosures and RSVP envelope.  I know this will cost more than the normal 45 cent stamp.  Any thoughts?

Re: How much postage for your wedding invitations?

  • Mine were similar and they were 80 cents an invite. Take them in to get weighed.

  • 85 cents a piece for mine (not including international - those were obviously more).

Agree with PP though, you should take yours in to be weighed and ask the postage for your specific envelope. If you have a square invite it will cost more, if you have special ribbons or anything that sticks out, it's possible they will have to hand cancel and that will cost more.

    Better safe than sorry :)

  • Good points!  I was going to order postage now, but I guess I should play it safe :)

I didn't have to pay anything more for hand canceling. You just need to try to go during a down time and be very nice when asking. :)

<div>Not every post office charges for it, but it's better to be prepared for them to require payment for it and be happily surprised if they don't require it.</div>

  • Mine were probably about 85 cents. I just used two 45 cent stamps and it was a bit more than what the weight dictated.

I also didn't hand cancel mine. But, funny story, one got totally burned in their machine (like half the envelope was gone and the invitation was singed. Yet, it still got delivered shockingly. Our friends sent us a pic of it. As far as I know that was the only one that had an issue.

  • I took mine to the APC and weighed it there in case you can't make it during business hours. Worked out just fine! Good luck.

Mine were 65 cents each- went over by an ounce!
  • I agree with taking them into the post office for weighing beforehand

You can order a lot of nice stamps online with bridal themes from the US Post office. I had mine weighed, then ordered the stamps online to get what I wanted since the local post office had a very minimal selection.

The 64 cent stamps had a white wedding cake on it, and the forever stamps had a white rose with gold rings on it.
  • Yes, take them to a post office! I thought mine were pretty light, but nope. 65 cents.

Also, if you have a white or light colored envelope, try to put it in a plastic baggie or something before they weigh it. Mine were white & it got dirty when she put it on the scale. Not happy!!

  • Mine just needed regular stamps so I got the pretty white roses one.  Definitely take them to the post office to be checked.  I thought I needed the 65 cent ones but nope.
