How much did you pay your officiant?

I am thinking of booking a friend of a coworker, but I obviously don't want to overpay (budget bride here!)

So anyway, what did you ladies pay for an officiant? We are not doing a church wedding, so I am really looking for the cost of having the officiant come to your location....

TIA

We are paying around $600 for them to attend the rehearsal and perform the ceremony

It depends.  Our Rabbi charged us $600.  Our minister didn't want money and had us make a donation to a charity of our choice.  If you get someone who has a congregation, they'll usually just make you donate to their church rather than pay them.

We didn't have a church wedding, either, and I believe we paid $400 or $450 to our officiant, who is a pastor and had set (although I believe somewhat negotiable) fees.

Included with that was as much contact and in-person meeting/counseling ahead of the wedding as we wanted, though he did not attend the rehearsal. But then again, we didn't need him to.

My pastor isn't charging us anything.  However, my parents wanted to do something really nice for them, so they gave them a few weeks of their time share.  To assess costs, I would break it down into actual hours that they will be spending on your wedding.  (Some offer marital counseling and ceremony planning services)  If they are only going to be there for the rehearsal and ceremony, then I think anything over $300 is a little ridiculous, but I'm cheap :)

I felt that alot of the officiants seemed high to me.  I found an independent who writes us a custom ceremony to our specifics.  She does the rehearsal and we have unlimited email and phone consultation with her.  We met her in person and she is willing to meet again in person before the wedding if I would prefer.  Her cost is $200.00.  But I agree wtih pp that $300 is the max :)

Ok good to know! I had absolutely no idea who much I should be paying, but it shounds like we got a bagin! The one I am going with most likely is $200 and includes pretty much everything (she even has your ceremony and vows bounded into a book that you get to keep).

She came recommended from a coworker.

    Who is yours fisktobe??

Thanks Ladies! You always have the best advice!!! :D

Yeah! I did book Jody. She actually used to do weddings with one of my coworkers. My coworkers has since stopped doing weddings (due to time constraits) but she recommended Jody since she worked with her for so long. I was speaking with Jody through email for a bit and she seemed wonderful. I can't wait to see what she puts together!
