Newbie + Vendor Help!

Hi! I'm Morgan. I've been engaged for a few months now and I saw an ad for the knot and came on here to join! We are getting married 8/20/11 at a private residence near Rhinebeck. Our colors are shades of blue but we are still looking for an accent color. We have a mix of vendors from all over the area so far but we are stumped on a bunch still.

Our ceremony and reception is taking place outdoors at the same place.... it's actually at my grandmother's house. She has a ton of property and nice gardens and has been gracious enough to let us have our wedding here... my sister, one cousin, mother, and 2 aunts got married here too so it's really special.

Our officiant is my uncle, which is going to be very special.

I purchased my dress, it's Melissa Sweet UMA... I started having second thoughts about it but now I'm loving it again...

We hired a day of coordinator, Lauren of Lauren Paige Associates.

We also hired Madison Florist for flowers. The designs are amazing and I'm hoping they can help us make things look different then my cousins wedding here 2 years ago.

We are in the process of choosing between two photographers, both from New Jersey, but I'm open to looking at others if anyone has any sugesstions. We like the non-posed pictures.

The main thing that is stressing me out is we can't find a caterer we BOTH like. We've met with about 7 and I think we are driving ourselves crazy. I think the major problem is a lot of the places won't let us taste the food until we hire them, so I'm making the appointments to meet with these places and Jake, the groom, expects food and refuses to hire anyone until we taste the food. A lot of these places are restaurants and said we can eat there to taste their food but won't guarantee the same chef for our wedding. I think he's too focused on the actual food where I just want to secure someone. We keep butting heads so we have yet to hire this vendor yet.

Anyway, thanks for listening and I look forward to meeting other brides!

Have you tried Main Course in New Paltz.  There food is supposed to be incredible although I have never had it, but FI has.  Also what about Cosmo's I believe they cater and they have a few restaraunts so you could atleast sample there.

Good luck! And welcome to the board!

If they are a restaurant, see if they will deduct your meal price from your wedding package if you decide to hire them (it's worth a shot!)

Don't sign with any caterer if you haven't tasted the food.

If they say that they can't guarantee the same caterer, can they at least let you try a couple dishes from their wedding chefs?

Terrapin in Rhinebeck is good, I've also heard good things about Gendron Catering(also Rhinebeck). Good luck!

Take a look at blue sky photography, lori o'toole they are both llocal. Were going with blue sky, and Lori was already booked when we were looking.  Good luck if you need anything else let me know. If your in Rhinebeck go right into town - you have a plethera to choose from right there (between that and Red Hook)! Love Terapin, you can also try Gigi's (she does a lot of wedding catering). Or also look into what there may be in Kingston since they are right across the bridge. HTH!

We used a great photographer from New Windsor -- Autumn Thomes -- check her out. Also for catering in the area, Main Course if the caterer we WISH we had used. We used Artist's Palate from Poughkeepsie, and although their food was good, their staff was not professional -- we would not reccomend them.
