  stick to your budget! don't even try on something you can't afford. remember you still have to pay for alterations and accessories. ask if they do alterations in house.
  
  it might help to do your hair/makeup so you can get an idea of the "whole look" with the dress. try on various styles, dresses can look very different on the hanger. wear a strapless bra or spanx if you think you'll wear it on your wedding day. it's also a good idea to wear heels similar to what you want for the wedding.
  
  i just went into a shop and said "my budget is $X." i didn't try to negotiate price further because i didn't think it was necessary. the first time i went shopping, i had examples of what i liked. that store (it's now closed) didn't have any dress that was similar, but i still tried on a few. then i went to Fabulous Bridal and just tried on everything--and found my dress. the most important thing to me was staying within my budget and finding a dress appropriate for my beach wedding (many i tried on were too heavy/hot).

  dont tell htem your actual date... give them a few weeks earlier... will save you headache in the end.
  ALWAYS negotiate price. They all will come down. Be willing to walk away, go home do some research online and go back with a few quotes. Its worth the extra steps and saved me 450 bucks!
