Need honest opinion if I don't fit in my dress -PIP

I bought my dress 2 years ago and I'm about 25 lbs heavier - not sure what I can lose in 4 months, but I think the girls on here will be honest versus my moms opinion.  The ties on the dress - they are just too far apart I think...I really think I need to start exploring the option of buying a new wedding dress.  Thoughts?

  • Honestly, I think it looks just fine!

  • It looks a bit tight, but it's a gorgeous dress and I'm sure you look gorgeous in it (do you have a picture of the front?) Have you talked to someone about alterations yet?  I wouldn't jump to "I need to buy a new dress yet!" I'm sure it can be let out some and if you lose a little weight you'll be fine.

It's definitely wearable and you obviously can fit in it. I guess the real question is, is it comfortable on?  Please don't buy a new dress..it's so pretty! Talk to professionals and see what your options are first.

  • I like the wider corset look. When I went for my first alteration the woman told me I should have bought a dress in a size smaller because my corset has to be tied so tight it doesn't have the same effect.
  • It looks ok.. If you think you need to loose weight use my fitnesspal.com. I ordered my dress a little snug. In November I weighed 135 I am now 128.
On my fitness pal you can tell it how much wieght you need to loose, if you will excerise( how many days, how long each day, and when you would like to loose the wieight. It will tell you how many calories you should eat each day, you report everyday what you ate and the calories, and if you excerize.
So far, I have three pounds to loose and the wedding is in June.

    You can do.

  • I think it looks lovely, honestly I prefer the look of the wider corset laces anyway.

I'd get the opinion of a seamstress regarding what can be done with it, too; often dresses do have enough leeway to be let out a bit, it's just more difficult.  Regardless, alterations should still cost less than buying a brand new dress.

Ultimately though, it's entirely up to you and whoever else is helping to pay for it.  If you have your heart set on a new dress because you're not a fan of this one anymore, I'd say go for it as long as it's in budget.

  • I agree with everyone else. Also have you tried putting anything under the dress. Such as spanx? I know that really helped when I had to fit into a BM dress.

  • I don't think that the laces are too far apart, they look great! I think it would fit better if you losened the top part of the laces just a bit, so it doesn't dig in so tight. (If the bottom part of the laces is tight enough, it will hold it up just fine.)

I have about 20 pounds to lose before I get to my goal weight, I have just begun due to set backs. If you lose 1 pound a week, you will be pretty close. Even if you don't lose as much as you would like, it will still make a difference!
Find what works for you and stick with it! I found that if I stay within my daily calories, I can lose. If you are exercising, you still need to make sure you aren't going over your calories, (normal daily calories plus eating the ones you burned due to exercise) or you will not lose fat.

Just buckle down, I know you can do it!! :) Easier said than done, I know....

  • I do not think that the laced up part is too far apart, however, it does seem a bit tight at the top.  I definitely think you can still wear that dress, it certainly looks beautiful from the back!

If you are interested in losing the weight, I'm pretty sure you could lose quite a bit in the next four months.  I am planning on losing at least 20 pounds and toning up a lot.  I'm am not saying you need to, but if you want to it is absolutely feasible.  I wouldn't get another dress though, that one is gorgeous!

  • I don't think that the laced part looks bad either.  I think the "V" is actually eye pleasing IMO.  Honestly even if you lose 10lbs (not that you need to) you might feel like it fit even better.  Just cutting out sugar sodas (if you drink those) or snacks at night would easily let you lose a little bit.  4 months is much longer than you think!  If you start now you would have plenty of time to slowly lose a few pounds.  IMO don't buy a new dress....I really like the back of that one a lot, but YOU need to feel comfortable and beautiful on your big day, so do what is best for you!!

I think from the back it looks great! I agree w/PP though, if you want to lose (not that you NEED to) you have plenty of time to lose at least a few pounds. Even if you just work on toning up, I think you may feel better about it. I looks great though. How does it look from the front?
